Stumbling Toward Obedience

Stumbling Toward Obedience PDF Author: David R. Hawkins
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 144979906X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 128

Book Description
Jesus demonstrated complete submission to the Fathers will to the point of His confident assertion, I always do those things that please My Father (John 8:29). He gave Himself in humility at Calvary to satisfy Gods wrath against all sin, as well as all sinners, and declared from the cross, It is finished. He then experienced death but rose in victory over death, thus proving His claims to divinity and giving to all His spiritual descendants resurrection power for daily living. So what is to be our response to all Christ Jesus is and all that He has suffered and accomplished on our behalf? What should be our lifes focus, our objective, our agenda, and our passion? Obedience to the things our Lord and Savior has commanded. Obedience is our duty, to be sure, but it is more than that. It is the way we express our thanksgiving for what Christ has done for us. It is gratefulness lived out on a daily basis. This kind of living involves a consistent orientation toward laying aside personal or selfish desires and agendas that bring us temporal gratification. Instead, we embrace what Jesus Christ tells us to do: to proclaim the gospel of hope to those who know it not. This is the highest expression of gratefulness from a life made new by the living Lord. Your culture, your communities, your friends, your co-workers, and your family members need to hear a word from God. You and I are the delivery persons for Gods message. We are the spokespersons for the gospel of Jesus Christ! We are the ones to whom God has said, Arise, go to Nineveh. Our Nineveh, dear people of God, is the lost people around us.

Paul, The Apostle of Obedience

Paul, The Apostle of Obedience PDF Author: Jason A. Myers
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 0567705862
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
Jason A. Myers reconsiders the meaning and context of the phrase “the obedience of faith” in Rom 1:5 and how it contributes to the theme of obedience in Romans. In contrast to previous studies that have nearly exclusively focused on the obedience language in light of the Hebrew Bible and Second Temple literature, Myers instead investigates how this language functioned within the Greco-Roman world, particularly in the discourse of the Roman Empire. By studying both the Greco-Roman contexts and the use of obedience language during the Empire, Myers sheds fresh light on the meaning of “the obedience of faith,” and concludes that such examination helps contemporary readers understand how Gentiles in Paul's audience would have heard and received the terms and images relating to obedience. In addition, he argues that Paul's use of obedience language, both at the beginning and end of Romans (1:5; 15:18), serves as rhetorical bookends, and signals a theme that is central to Paul's purpose in Romans and integral to his calling as an apostle to the Gentiles.

A Pure Theory of Democracy

A Pure Theory of Democracy PDF Author: Antonio García-Trevijano
Publisher: University Press of America
ISBN: 0761848576
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
'This is not a democracy,' Antonio Garc'a-Trevijano denounces in the first pages of this book. To confront the great lie that Europe does have democratic regimes, a lie rooted in people's confounding of the liberties they enjoy with the political freedom that they lack, the author builds a realistic theory of democracy to end the false idea that corruption, state crime, and public immorality are democracy's (undesirable) products and not the natural and inevitable fruits of oligarchic regimes. Thanks to a superb review of the events that mark the history of democracy, the author reveals the obstacles that, from the 17th century English revolution, the United States' War of Independence, and the French Revolution, opposed political freedom, deviating old Europe's democratic possibilities toward the current parties' state. There exist important theories of the state and of constitution, but none that can be called a theory of democracy. Antonio Garc'a-Trevijano's original theory, a modern synthesis of Rousseau's pure democracy and Montesquieu's political freedom, responds to European need for a theory of democracy as a real alternative to the corrupted parties' regime that was engendered by Western pragmatism during the Cold War.
