Propagation Speed of [gamma]-radiation in Air
The Propagation of Gamma Quanta in Matter
Author: O. I. Leipunskii
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483152650
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
The Propagation of Gamma Quanta in Matter deals with various problems of the propagation and absorption of gamma quanta in matter, particularly the occurrence of multiple scattering of radiation. The ultimate objective is to determine the material, size, and configuration that will ensure the safe absorption of nuclear radiation. Shield design problems are given, the solution of which is achieved using numerical data presented in graphs and tables. This volume is comprised of three chapters and begins with an overview of the interaction of gamma radiation with matter and multiple scattering of gamma quanta, along with the distribution function and quantities connected with it. The next chapter offers a detailed analysis of the theory of multiple scattering of gamma quanta, giving emphasis on the transport equation, method of moments as well as method of random sampling (Monte Carlo) and method of successive collisions. The final chapter examines the propagation of radiation for various geometrical configurations of the source and absorbing media and describes a point source in a homogeneous medium and on the boundary of two media. Unidirectional radiation in a homogeneous medium is also considered, together with the reflection of gamma radiation from the surface of a scattering medium. This monograph will appeal to students, physicists, engineers, and experimental workers.
