There is noth ing second-hand about it. The author did not shrink from the toil of examining the most volumi nous and abstruse works as well as the ephemeral productions Of the daily press and of socialistic ora tory. Socialists themselves give him credit for hav ing interpreted their meaning and their aims more faithfully and accurately than some Of their own followers. Socialism - An Economic and Sociological Analysis
Author: Ludwig von Mises
Publisher: VM eBooks
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 766
Book Description
Socialism is the watchword and the catchword of our day. The socialist idea dominates the modem spirit. The masses approve of it. It expresses the thoughts and feelings of all; it has set its seal upon our time. When history comes to tell our story it will write above the chapter “The Epoch of Socialism.” As yet, it is true, Socialism has not created a society which can be said to represent its ideal. But for more than a generation the policies of civilized nations have been directed towards nothing less than a gradual realization of Socialism.17 In recent years the movement has grown noticeably in vigour and tenacity. Some nations have sought to achieve Socialism, in its fullest sense, at a single stroke. Before our eyes Russian Bolshevism has already accomplished something which, whatever we believe to be its significance, must by the very magnitude of its design be regarded as one of the most remarkable achievements known to world history. Elsewhere no one has yet achieved so much. But with other peoples only the inner contradictions of Socialism itself and the fact that it cannot be completely realized have frustrated socialist triumph. They also have gone as far as they could under the given circumstances. Opposition in principle to Socialism there is none. Today no influential party would dare openly to advocate Private Property in the Means of Production. The word “Capitalism” expresses, for our age, the sum of all evil. Even the opponents of Socialism are dominated by socialist ideas. In seeking to combat Socialism from the standpoint of their special class interest these opponents—the parties which particularly call themselves “bourgeois” or “peasant”—admit indirectly the validity of all the essentials of socialist thought. For if it is only possible to argue against the socialist programme that it endangers the particular interests of one part of humanity, one has really affirmed Socialism. If one complains that the system of economic and social organization which is based on private property in the means of production does not sufficiently consider the interests of the community, that it serves only the purposes of single strata, and that it limits productivity; and if therefore one demands with the supporters of the various “social-political” and “social-reform” movements, state interference in all fields of economic life, then one has fundamentally accepted the principle of the socialist programme. Or again, if one can only argue against socialism that the imperfections of human nature make its realization impossible, or that it is inexpedient under existing economic conditions to proceed at once to socialization, then one merely confesses that one has capitulated to socialist ideas. The nationalist, too, affirms socialism, and objects only to its Internationalism. He wishes to combine Socialism with the ideas of Imperialism and the struggle against foreign nations. He is a national, not an international socialist; but he, also, approves of the essential principles of Socialism.

Wrong Turnings
Author: Geoffrey M. Hodgson
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022650591X
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 296
Book Description
The Left is in crisis. Despite global economic turbulence, left-wing political parties in many countries have failed to make progress in part because they have grown too ideologically fragmented. Today, the term Left is associated with state intervention and public ownership, but this has little in common with the original meaning of the term. What caused what we mean by the Left to change, and how has that hindered progress? With Wrong-Turnings, Geoffrey M. Hodgson tracks changes in the meaning of the Left and offers suggestions for how the Left might reclaim some of its core values. The term Left originated during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries sought to abolish the monarchy and privilege and to introduce a new society based on liberty, equality, fraternity, and universal rights. Over time, however, the meaning radically changed, especially through the influence of socialism and collectivism. Hodgson argues that the Left must rediscover its roots in the Enlightenment and readopt Enlightenment values it has abandoned, such as those concerning democracy and universal human rights. Only then will it be prepared to address contemporary problems of inequality and the survival of democracy. Possible measures could include enhanced educational provisions, a guaranteed basic income, and a viable mechanism for fair distribution of wealth. Wrong-Turnings is a truly pathbreaking work from one of our most prolific and respected institutional theorists. It will change our understanding of how the left got lost.

The Psychology of Socialism
Author: Gustave Le Bon
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351475894
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 282
Book Description
First published in 1899 during a period of crisis for French democracy, The Psychology of Socialism details Le Bon's view of socialism and radicalism primarily as religious movements. The emotionalism and hysteria of the period-especially as manifested during the Dreyfuss Affair-convinced Le Bon that most political controversy is based neither on reasoned deliberation nor rational interest, but on a psychology that partakes of contatgion andhysteria. Le Bon points to the irrationality of religion and uses the religiosity of socialism to debunk socialism as an irrational movement based on hatred and jealousy.

Lies My Teacher Told Me: Swastikas, Nazis, Pledge of Allegiance Lies Exposed by Rex Curry and Francis & Edward Bellamy
Author: Micky Barnetti
Publisher: No Pledge Publishing
ISBN: 1515248720
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 384
Book Description
Lies are exposed to reveal the following: The Nazi salute was performed by public officials in the USA from 1892 through 1942. What happened to the photographs and films of the American Nazi salute performed by federal, state, county, and local officials? Those photos and films are rare because people don't want to know the truth. Public officials in the USA who preceded the German socialist (Hitler) and the Italian socialist (Mussolini) were sources for the stiff-armed salute (and robotic chanting) in those countries and other foreign countries. Explore how the "ancient Roman salute" myth originated from the city of Rome in the state of New York (not Italy), Francis Bellamy's hometown. Learn about Mussolini's strange gift to the city of Rome, NY: a statue of two human male infants suckling on a female wolf. That statue remains on display in Rome, NY. Learn how the word "fascist" is related to the word "faggot." Discover how the military salute was the origin of the Nazi salute. Read why the Pledge of Allegiance would not be performed by anyone (other than kooks ) if the truth were taught in school. Find out who you are, what you are, and how you got to be that way. Also learn who you should blame: your teacher (and the government's schools). Debunk myths about Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Francis Bellamy (and his cousin Edward Bellamy), Fascism, Unionism, Socialism, genocide, swastikas, the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, the cliche' "under God," Christianity, ancient Rome, military socialism, crony socialism, and the military-socialism complex. The Pointer Institute proudly presents another news-breaking volume from the Dead Writers Club (DWC) and Micky Barnetti. Lies your teacher taught you are illuminated from the work of the historian Dr. Rex Curry. Micky Barnetti is a philologist and a forensic fraud analyst. Barnetti's work led to the arrest, trial, conviction, and imprisonment of America's Dumbest Criminals (and the foreclosure of their homes, along with victim restitution liens, and criminal forfeiture judgments, in amounts totaling millions of dollars). Barnetti collaborates with the Dead Writer's Club (“DWC” -an author's group) and assists the Pointer Institute for Media Studies to provide remedial education to journalists about history, economics, and government.

Francis Bellamy Biography - Edward Bellamy, Rex Curry exposing Nazi salutes, Socialism, Fascism, Nazism
Author: Ian Tinny
Publisher: No Pledge Publishing
ISBN: 1515096874
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 269
Book Description
Francis Bellamy, author of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, was the origin of the Nazi salute and Nazi behavior. This book reveals why public schools will not teach students about his life. Astounding discoveries (from the historian Dr. Rex Curry) are explained in this biography of Bellamy. Learn the tragic impact of Bellamy's dogma of "Christian Socialism" and "Military Socialism" all over the world. Find out why, if the truth were taught about Bellamy, then all students would refuse to perform the 12-year daily ritual of chanting that Bellamy promoted. Author Ian Tinny with the Pointer Institute shows the connections to Socialism, Fascism, Nazism, and more. Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, this biography of Francis Bellamy is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of anarcho-capitalism. Tinny writes with an enthusiasm rarely encountered in the leaden prose of academic history, and his text is studded with telling quotations from history's forgotten luminaries. There are vivid descriptions of events that are usually ignored (e.g. the Pledge of Allegiance as the origin of the Nazi salute and Nazi behavior). Ian Tinny's work on Francis Bellamy (author of the Pledge of Allegiance), exposing the dogma of "military socialism," should be read by every student. Instead, it is banned in government schools (socialist schools).
