Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 3)

Migration and Social Protection in Europe and Beyond (Volume 3) PDF Author: Jean-Michel Lafleur
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030512371
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
This third and last open access volume in the series takes the perspective of non-EU countries on immigrant social protection. By focusing on 12 of the largest sending countries to the EU, the book tackles the issue of the multiple areas of sending state intervention towards migrant populations. Two “mirroring” chapters are dedicated to each of the 12 non-EU states analysed (Argentina, China, Ecuador, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey). One chapter focuses on access to social benefits across five core policy areas (health care, unemployment, old-age pensions, family benefits, guaranteed minimum resources) by discussing the social protection policies that non-EU countries offer to national residents, non-national residents, and non-resident nationals. The second chapter examines the role of key actors (consulates, diaspora institutions and home country ministries and agencies) through which non-EU sending countries respond to the needs of nationals abroad. The volume additionally includes two chapters focusing on the peculiar case of the United Kingdom after the Brexit referendum. Overall, this volume contributes to ongoing debates on migration and the welfare state in Europe by showing how non-EU sending states continue to play a role in third country nationals’ ability to deal with social risks. As such this book is a valuable read to researchers, policy makers, government employees and NGO’s.

The External Dimension of EU Social Security Coordination

The External Dimension of EU Social Security Coordination PDF Author: Pauline Melin
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004415335
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 383

Book Description
In The External Dimension of EU Social Security Coordination: Towards a Common EU Approach, Pauline Melin provides a detailed legal analysis of the framework on social security coordination with third countries and offers alternative policy solutions to the current fragmented approach. The analysis comprises a complete overview of the EU approach to social security coordination with third countries, 9 bilateral agreements (between Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands, with respectively India, Turkey, and USA) and international standards. Based on this analysis, the author explores the possibility from an institutional perspective to develop a common EU approach through the conclusion of EU agreements. The author concludes by favouring an alternative softer solution through an EU model agreement and proposes that the content of that model agreement be based on the best practices of the current framework.

This study is intended to outline some of the challenges and assist policy-makers in furthering their understanding of the part CSOs can play in tandem and alongside government. To this end it analyses existing evidence and draws on a set of seven thematic chapters and six mini case studies. They examine experiences from Austria Bosnia-Herzegovina Belgium Cyprus Finland Germany Malta the Netherlands Poland the Russian Federation Slovenia Turkey and the European Union and make use of a single assessment framework to understand the diverse contexts in which CSOs operate. CSOs make a substantial contribution to public health and health systems with regards to policy development service delivery and governance. This includes evidence provision advocacy mobilization consensus building provision of medical services and of services related to the social determinants of health standard setting self-regulation and fostering social partnership. However in order to engage successfully with CSOs governments do need to make use of adequate tools and create contexts conducive to collaboration. To guide policy-makers working with CSOs through such complications and help avoid some potential pitfalls the book outlines a practical framework for such collaboration. Book Description
For the formation and preparation of this book, my previously published articles, which are available on my personal blog sozercizmeci.com.tr, have been compiled. As a Human Resources Professional, with experience for more than ten years, I have been working and writing in particular with respect to the recent legal developments in the fields of “Labor” and “Foreigners” with a great interest and joy. Throughout my professional career, my entire working life has focused on these relevant two terms. Because of working in a multinational culture, I have always fully believed in the success of the combination of the local and global and achievement of a balanced compromise between these two. Thus, the non-comprehensive list of topics mainly discussed in this book, specifically provides information with respect to the principles and procedures within the framework of the Turkish laws regarding the interaction between “Labor” and “Foreigners”. Nothing in this book shall be deemed as a comprehensive review of the relevant Turkish legislation. This book has been prepared as a portfolio of my works as well as a beginners’ guide for those interested in understanding the basics of the most relevant Turkish principles especially in the fields of Human Resources, Expatriates, Immigration and International Non-Governmental Organizations. This book only contains general information not any professional information or legal advice. Though I have shown ultimate attention during the formation, preparation and control of the information provided in this book as to ensure its accuracy, I shall not be held responsible for any error, omission or inaccuracy herein. All developments until 25 January 2022 have been taken into consideration. All articles are also available at sozercizmeci. com.tr which is active since 2008.

Book Description
All over the world countries face the challenge of inadequate social security coverage for workers without an employment contact. In countries of the global south, this phenomenon is a natural consequence of large informal economies. Countries in the global north increasingly witness the same issue, due to growing labour market flexibility (flex contracts, dependent self-employment, digitization of labour). In this book authors from both hemispheres exchange insights, experiments and practices with the intention of finding better ways to deal with the social security challenges facing workers.
