Ecological Restoration

Ecological Restoration PDF Author: George H. Pardue
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 262

Book Description
Human exploitation of stream and land ecosystems has created the need to preserve, restore and rehabilitate. This book discusses the scientific basis of restoration for ecological improvement and some key issues associated with overall projects. In addition, some of the challenges and opportunities for further research in river restoration science is explored and the associated fields of ecohydraulics and eco-hydromorphology. An analysis of the effects of river side-arm restoration on ecosystem functions is also included, as well as an experimental approach to assessing marsh restoration as compared to a strict monitoring process. The concept of combinatorial biodiversity auction is discussed in this book, showing that the combinatorial biodiversity auction can allow farmers to benefit from cost complementarities and help to maximise biodiversity outcomes within a given budget. Also included is a presentation of the need for restoration and rehabilitation projects developed according to an ecological theory considering species life history, habitat template and spatio-temporal scope, the bi-directional effect of self-renaturalisation processes on the environment and a study on how different river typologies may alter the evaluations of biological quality.

History of Walton County

History of Walton County PDF Author: John Love McKinnon
Publisher: Pantianos Classics
ISBN: 9781789873429
Category : Walton County (Fla.)
Languages : en
Pages : 389

Book Description
This superb history takes us from the earliest settlement of Walton County, Florida, through its role in the wars and conflicts of the 19th century, to its development as a modern district. John Love McKinnon was a descendant of Colonel John L. McKinnon, who was one of the original founders of Walton County, being part of a trio of white men to first set foot upon the land. The colonel's expeditionary accounts are a significant source for the first part of this history, which discusses the characteristics of the land, the picturesque coastline, and its suitability for settlement. A clear appreciation for natural beauty graces this chronicle; the streams, fields, groves and woods of the land are evocatively described. At first sparsely populated, by the time of the U.S. Civil War many young men of the area were recruited for combat in the Confederacy. Though the area itself escaped skirmishing, several local residents fought in the large battles of the war, such as Chickamauga. On several occasions this history becomes biography, recounting the stories of individual lives and the legacy they left upon the community, be it in military prowess or with establishing the first schools and businesses.
