Book Description
How To Get Rid of Jesus: Prove He Didn't Exist! A popular question posed by Christians today asks, "WWJD?" - which stands for, "What Would Jesus Do?" For more and more Skeptics of Christianity, however, the answer to this question is, "JDNE" - which stands for, "Jesus did not exist!" In this volume, edited by prominent Internet apologist James Patrick Holding, a team of Christian authors provide a series of essays giving detailed answers to those who argue for the "Christ myth." Though rejected by mainstream scholars, this theory continues to grow in popularity among popular writers and Internet antagonists. The need for Christians to be ready to give an answer to it will only become more urgent. "Here's a clear and compelling rebuttal to fallacious claims that keep resurfacing in books and on the Internet. It's well-researched, expertly presented, and ultimately convincing." - Lee Strobel, author, The Case for the Real Jesus

The Christ Myth

The Christ Myth PDF Author: Arthur Drews
Publisher: Prometheus Books
ISBN: 1615924531
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
First published in 1910, The Christ Myth drew violent criticism from theologians, the press, and the public. Eminent German philosopher Arthur Drews (1865-1935) reacts to the "romantic cult of Jesus," which, he says is undermining intellectual truthfulness. He exposes the Jesus of the gospels as a mythical character, arguing that no basis exists for seeking a historical figure behind the Christ myth. Through a comparative study of ancient religions, Drews shows that Christianity is a syncretism of various pagan and Jewish beliefs, and that a strong pre-Christian cult of Jesus as son of God and messiah existed. This is a valuable sourcebook for students of religion, and all those interested in examining the origins of Christianity.

Did Jesus Really Live?

Did Jesus Really Live? PDF Author: Herbert J. Rossington
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781330979198
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 92

Book Description
Excerpt from Did Jesus Really Live?: A Reply to 'the Christ Myth' The interest in Jesus of Nazareth seems to grow from more to more. Each succeeding age discovers in him some fresh attraction, or reinterprets in accordance with its own needs aspects of his life and teaching which appealed to former times. In an age of criticism such as ours it is inevitable that much is called in question which once went unchallenged. Hence it need occasion no surprise if Christianity is asked to give an account of itself. In such a case the task of the Christian apologist is not to denounce but to discuss - to indicate that historical criticism is a means of defence and not a mere instrument of attack. Accordingly this little book attempts to deal suggestively rather than exhaustively with the important issue raised in recent critical works. It is written in the sincere hope that it may prove helpful to some who believe with the writer that the historic personality of Jesus is fundamental to Christian faith. Category : Art
Languages : en
Pages : 198

Book Description
Return of the Serpents of Wisdom and Conversations With the Goddess author Pinkham tells us the Truth Behind the Christ Myth and presents radically new information regarding Jesus Christ and his ancient legend, includes: The legend of Jesus Christ is based on a much earlier Son of God myth from India, the legend of Murrugan, the Peacock Angel; The symbol of the Catholic Church is Murrugan's symbol, the peacock, a bird native to south-east Asia; Murrugan evolved into the Persian Mithras, and Mithras evolved into Jesus Christ Saint Paul came from Tarsus, the centre of Mithras worship in Asia Minor. He amalgamated the legend of the Persian Son of God onto Jesus' life story; The Three Wise Men were Magi priests from Persia who believed that Jesus was an incarnation of Mithras; While in India, Saint Thomas became a peacock before he died and merged with Murrugan, the Peacock Angel; The Emperor Constantine, the first 'Christian' Emperor of the Roman Empire, was a lifelong devotee of Mithras. He was baptised Christian on his deathbed; The myth of the One and Only Son of God originated with Murrugan and Mithras.

Not illustrated. 1900 edition. Excerpt: ... stumbling-block to Christian commentators. Matthew asserts that there are fourteen generations from Abraham to David; fourteen from David to the Babylonian Exile, and fourteen from the Exile to Christ--forty-two in all. But, in reality, according to his reckoning, there are thirteen generations from Abraham to David; fourteen from David to the Exile, and twelve from the Exile to Joseph--thirteen, including Jesus, although Jesus is declared not to be the son of Joseph--making thirty-nine without Jesus, and forty with him. Now, these blunders were perceived by even the earliest exegetists of the Gospels, and it is highly edifying, from an ethical point of view, to observe the various attempts to reconcile the glaring discrepancies. Jerome suggests a mistake of the genealogist with regard to two of the names in the second division, a perfectly gratuitous assumption. Jerome says also that Matthew omitted certain names because he wished to "make" each series consist of fourteen generations, and the persons omitted deserved the slight because they were wicked men. Augustine counts one name twice, because when a series changes its direction the angle is reckoned twice; a principle which he applies to the Exile, but not to the Exodus. With the same ingenuity he accepts Jesus as descended from Joseph in order to make out forty generations, as this number denotes our temporal life, because there are four seasons in the year, and four sides to the world, and forty is ten times four, and ten is made up of a number proceeding from one to four. Augustine also notices the absence of the three names, and gives the same explanation as Jerome of the omission, as though the reason were sufficient and ought to be satisfactory to all concerned. The...

Trusting the New Testament

Trusting the New Testament PDF Author: James Patrick Holding
Publisher: Xulon Press
ISBN: 1607917335
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 306

Book Description
Is the Bible reliable - or has is it been corrupted? Many popular sources, ranging from Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code to Bart Ehrman's Misquoting Jesus, claim that the New Testament as we know it has been corrupted, damaged, or tampered with. Are these charges true? Or can we trust the New Testament? In this volume, prominent Internet apologist James Patrick Holding will take a closer look at four aspects of the transmission of the New Testament, and answer these important questions: - Was the New Testament material corrupted when it was passed on by word of mouth, before it was written down? - Was the New Testament material corrupted as it was copied in writing in its early years? - Was the New Testament material really written by the people whose names are on the books? - Was the New Testament canon judiciously selected? Learn the answers to these critical queries, and you'll learn our reasons for Trusting the New Testament! "I am confident that this work by James Patrick Holding will be a valuable asset to anyone who is in need of powerful evidence and information regarding the integrity of the New Testament." - Dr. Richard Howe, Professor of Philosophy and Apologetics, Southern Evangelical Seminary (from the Foreword)
