The reports Of the various railroad, steamboat, telegraph and tetlephone companies operating in this State, as well as the proceedings and decisions rendered. It is only just to the majority Of the Board Of Commissioners to state that none of the reports contained in this Annual Report came under the inspection or were received by the present Board. The Chairman Of the Board and Mr. Pearson, having been ap pointed by your Excellency to fill the vacancies caused by the suspension of Messrs, J. W. Wilson and S. Otho Wilson, on Sep tember 23, 1897, and their right and title to the Offices being ques tioned, it became necessary to resort to legal proceedings to have an adjudication of the same, and it was not until December 23, 1897, determined who were entitled thereto; the duties Of the Office in the meantime being performed by the deposed Commis sioners and Commissioner Abbott; so that the correctness Of this report is based upon the efficient labors of the Clerk to said Board. Excerpt from Seventh Annual Report of the North Carolina Corporation Commission: For the Year Ending December 31, 1905; Compilations From Railroad Returns Are for Year Ending June 30, 1905 Three hundred and eighty-seven complaints were made to the Com mission during the year, the most of which have been disposed of. Some in which it was necessary to make further investigation are still pending. As the records of our office will show, these complaints were of great variety. A great many of them were for alleged failure of railroad companies to render proper service. For example: com plaints were made for failure to keep passenger schedules; to bulletin arrival of trains; to furnish cars for shipment of freight; to transport freight, carload and less than carload, within a reasonable time after same was received; to deliver freight after its arrival at destination.
