Book Description
ECDL 2002 was the 6th conference in the series of European Conferences on Research and Advanced Technologies for Digital Libraries. Following previous events in Pisa (1997), Heraklion (1998), Paris (1999), Lisbon (2000), and Da- stadt (2001), this year ECDL was held in Rome. ECDL 2002 contributed, - gether with the previous conferences, to establishing ECDL as the major - ropean forum focusing on digital libraries and associated technical, practical, and social issues. ECDL 2002 continued the tradition already established by the previous conferences in meeting the needs of a large and diverse constituency, which includes researchers, practitioners, educators, policy makers, and users. The focus of ECDL 2002 was on underlying principles, methods, systems, and tools to build and make available e?ective digital libraries to end users. Architecture, metadata, collection building, web archiving, web technologies,- books, OAI applications, preservation, navigation, query languages, audio video retrieval, multimedia-mixed media, user studies and evaluation, humanities, and digital libraries were some of the key issues addressed. An international Program Committee was set up composed of 61 members, with representatives from 25 countries. A total of 145 paper submissions, 15 poster submissions, and 18 proposals for demos were received. Each paper was evaluated by 3 referees and 42 full papers and 6 short papers of high quality were selected for presentation.

Book Description
This insightful book explores the challenging issues related to effective access to government information. Amidst all the chaos of today’s dynamic information transition period, the only constants related to government information are change and inconsistency, yet with Government Information Collections in the Networked Environment: New Issues and Models, you will defeat the challenging issues and take advantage of the opportunities that networked government information collections have to offer. This valuable book gives you a fresh opportunity to rethink collecting activities and to tailor collections more precisely to fulfill the information needs of your local community. It will help you provide your patrons access to the full array and value of networked government information. Government Information Collections in the Networked Environment explores the changes and inconsistency of the new networked government information environment’s transitional phase, with studies and solutions that will assist you in creating an information environment that may prove to be the greatest leveling force in library collecting. With this book, even the smallest community library can have the same government resources as those found in the largest of institutions. Throughout its pages, you’ll explore new challenges and learn how to conquer them as the book discusses: equipment and software building strong access through user instruction resolving preservation and long-term archiving issues resolving the current problem of local access to government information creating Community Information Organization Projects investigating problems with digital collections discovering The Internet Scout Project redistributing data via the World Wide Web Those who seek out information from the government know first-hand how impressive the array of networked government information has become. Government Information Collections in the Networked Environment will teach you how to manage and manipulate electronic information to provide the best possible collections to your users.

Computing Tools for Modeling, Optimization and Simulation

Computing Tools for Modeling, Optimization and Simulation PDF Author: Manuel Laguna
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461545676
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 318

Book Description
Computing Tools for Modeling, Optimization and Simulation reflects the need for preserving the marriage between operations research and computing in order to create more efficient and powerful software tools in the years ahead. The 17 papers included in this volume were carefully selected to cover a wide range of topics related to the interface between operations research and computer science. The volume includes the now perennial applications of rnetaheuristics (such as genetic algorithms, scatter search, and tabu search) as well as research on global optimization, knowledge management, software rnaintainability and object-oriented modeling. These topics reflect the complexity and variety of the problems that current and future software tools must be capable of tackling. The OR/CS interface is frequently at the core of successful applications and the development of new methodologies, making the research in this book a relevant reference in the future. The editors' goal for this book has been to increase the interest in the interface of computer science and operations research. Both researchers and practitioners will benefit from this book. The tutorial papers may spark the interest of practitioners for developing and applying new techniques to complex problems. In addition, the book includes papers that explore new angles of well-established methods for problems in the area of nonlinear optimization and mixed integer programming, which seasoned researchers in these fields may find fascinating.
