It is intended to serve as an introduction to the poetry of one whose poems present difficulties even to scholars. Simplicity has therefore been the guiding principle in the selection, the arrangement, and the editing of the poems. This edition includes all the poems which are on the list of the College Entrance Requirements. The order of arrangement is that which Browning himself preferred in the selection of his poems which he made and published before his death.
