Book Description
Two-dimensional and three-dimensional hydraulic model investigations will be conducted to test various new concepts of streambank protection. A range of angular wave attack, wave periods, and wave heights will be tested for each concept. Each concept will be tested with various bank slopes in an attempt to cover the range of naturally occurring bank slopes.

Book Description
A series of tests was conducted at the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) to evaluate the effectiveness of several schemes of using gabions for bank protection. Specifically, efforts were directed at evaluating the use of gabions for hard points or toe protection similar to the way riprap is used for hard points or toe protection at several prototype sites in the Vicksburg District.

Book Description
A field inspection was conducted by the U.S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) personnel on 10 November 1976 to observe types and causes of bank erosion on the Yazoo River near Vicksburg, Mississippi. In the area that was inspected, the Yazoo River consists of a lower reach that has been straightened to improve navigation to the Vicksburgy harbor and an upper reach without any cutoffs, straightening, or bank protective measures. The inspection team started near the mouth of the Yazoo River at the Vicksburgy waterfront. The team proceeded upstream in a WES boat observing intermittent bank erosion for 20 miles.

Book Description
Tests were conducted at the U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station (WES) on aluminum grids to determine the suitability of these materials as a potential bank protection system. Specifically, this test examined a grid/vegetation system in combination as a possible means for controlling bank erosion. The system was evaluated for effectiveness and durability in controlling erosion, ease of placement, and cost. It was envisioned that this system might be employed where something more durable than vegetation, but less durable than riprap, is believed necessary. The test area with the aluminum grid and rye grass growing in the areas surrounded by the hexagonal cells experienced very little or no erosion. The test area with rye grass (only) growing experienced some erosion, while the area adjacent to the test area experienced severe erosion.

Book Description
This investigation clearly indicated the advantages of using spray-on stabilizers on denuded slopes until vegetation becomes established. Three of the materials tested, Aerospray-70, Soil Seal, and DLR, were effective in establishing vegetation. These materials showed no adverse effect on germination. Bermuda grass in these sections emerged and propagated better than that in the control plot. Aerospray-70 and Soil Seal were the most effective in controlling soil erosion during the test period. The plant emergence and growth rate using Peneprime and Nerozin were below that obtained in the control plot. In conclusion, it is recommended that Aerospray-70 and Soil Seal be incorporated into some of the Section 32 Program demonstration projects for field testing. It is also recommended that spray-on stabilizers be considered for general use to inhibit erosion while enhancing plant emergence and early growth. General guidelines for application of spray-on stabilizers are given in Appendix A; further studies on various types of soils subject to different conditions may show more effective application procedures.
