Book Description
A model-independent search for a narrow resonance produced in proton–proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV and decaying to a pair of 125 GeV Higgs bosons that in turn each decays into a bottom quark–antiquark pair is performed by the CMS experiment at the LHC. We analyzed the data so that it corresponded to an integrated luminosity of 17.9 fb-1. No evidence for a signal is observed. Upper limits at a 95% confidence level on the production cross section for such a resonance, in the mass range from 270 to 1100 GeV, are reported. A radion with decay constant of 1 TeV and mass from 300 to 1100 GeV, and a Kaluza–Klein graviton with mass from 380 to 830 GeV are excluded at a 95% confidence level.

Book Description
Abstract: A search for resonant Higgs boson pair production in the b ̄bb ̄b final state is presented. The analysis uses 126 fb−1-139 fb−1 of pp collision data at √s=13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is divided into two channels, targeting Higgs boson decays which are reconstructed as pairs of small-radius jets or as individual large-radius jets. Spin-0 and spin-2 benchmark signal models are considered, both of which correspond to resonant HH production via gluon-gluon fusion. The data are consistent with Standard Model predictions. Upper limits are set on the production cross section times branching ratio to Higgs boson pairs of a new resonance in the mass range from 251 GeV to 5 TeV

Book Description
A search is presented for narrow heavy resonances X decaying into pairs of Higgs bosons (H) in proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at sqrt(s)=8 TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns. The search considers HH resonances with masses between 1 and 3 TeV, having final states of two b quark pairs. Each Higgs boson is produced with large momentum, and the hadronization products of the pair of b quarks can usually be reconstructed as single large jets. The background from multijet and t-tbar events is significantly reduced by applying requirements related to the flavor of the jet, its mass, and its substructure. The signal would be identified as a peak on top of the dijet invariant mass spectrum of the remaining background events. No evidence is observed for such a signal. Upper limits obtained at 95% confidence level for the product of the production cross section and branching fraction sigma(gg to X) B(X to HH to b-bbar b-bbar) range from 10 to 1.5 fb for the mass of X from 1.15 to 2.0 TeV, significantly extending previous searches. For a warped extra dimension theory with a mass scale Lambda[R] = 1 TeV, the data exclude radion scalar masses between 1.15 and 1.55 TeV.

Book Description
Results are reported of a general search for pair production of heavy resonances decaying to pairs of jets in events with at least four jets. The study is based on up to 19.4 inverse femtobarns of integrated luminosity from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC. Limits are determined on the production of scalar top quarks (top squarks) in the framework of R-parity violating supersymmetry and on the production of color-octet vector bosons (colorons). First limits at the LHC are placed on top squark production for two scenarios. The first assumes decay to a bottom quark and a light-flavor quark and is excluded for masses between 200 and 385 GeV, and the second assumes decay to a pair of light-flavor quarks and is excluded for masses between 200 and 350 GeV at 95% confidence level. Previous limits on colorons decaying to light-flavor quarks are extended to exclude masses from 200 to 835 GeV.

Book Description
This dissertation presents a search for new heavy resonances decaying to a pair of Higgs bosons in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data were collected with the CMS detector at the LHC in 2016--2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 $\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$. Resonances with a mass between 0.8 and 4.5 TeV are considered using events in which one Higgs boson decays into a bottom quark pair and the other into final states with either one or two charged leptons. Specifically, the single-lepton decay channel $\mathrm{HH} \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \mathrm{WW}^* \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \ell \nu \mathrm{q}\bar{\mathrm{q}}$ and the dilepton decay channels $\mathrm{HH} \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \mathrm{WW}^* \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \ell \nu \ell \nu$ and $\mathrm{HH} \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \tau\tau \to \mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}} \ell \nu \nu \ell \nu \nu$ are examined. The signal is extracted using a two-dimensional maximum likelihood fit of the $\mathrm{H}\to\mathrm{b}\bar{\mathrm{b}}$ jet mass and HH invariant mass distributions. No significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed in data. Model-independent exclusion limits are placed on the product of the cross section and branching fraction for narrow spin-0 and spin-2 massive bosons decaying to HH. The results provide the most stringent limits to date for $\mathrm{X}\to\mathrm{HH}$ signatures with final-state leptons and at some masses provide the most sensitive limits of all $\mathrm{X}\to\mathrm{HH}$ searches.

Book Description
We present a search for pair production of new physics resonances decaying into a top quark and a light parton in final states with two leptons, interpreting the results in the context of an R-parity violating supersymmetric model. We use 19.5 fb[-]1 of data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC from proton-proton collisions at s = 8 TeV in 2012. The experimental signature consists of two leptons (e or [MICRO SIGN]), two jets identified as originating from the decay of a b quark, and two jets identified as coming from light flavor quarks or gluons. We reconstruct and analyze potential resonant decays. The dominant standard model background is top quark pair production with additional jets from initialor final-state radiation. We perform an extended unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the transverse momenta of the two leading light jets and the reconstructed resonance mass. The observation is consistent with the standard model expectation, and we set upper limits on the signal cross section for R-parity violating bottom squarks with masses between 250 and 600 GeV. We exclude R-parity violating bottom squark pair production at the 95% confidence level between 250 GeV and 326 GeV.
