Book Description
If you'd like to improve your ability to learn, memorize and recall the Psalms of the Bible by as much as 100%, 200%, even 300% (or more) ... using simple memory techniques that you can learn in 15-20 minutes (or less), then this may be the most important book that you will ever read. Believe it or not, it really doesn't matter if you think you have a good memory or not. The information in this book will teach you: * Why memory is like a bicycle everyone can ride (with some minor personal adjustments). * The real reason why no one should ever be squeamish about memorization or memorizing all 150 Psalms. * Why and how some of the most famous memory skills are applicable to memorizing poetry, especially the Psalms. * How you can easily create a "Psalm location" memory system based on an easy-to-use principle that lets you imagine your way through places you already know and love. * Unique memory techniques that will have you literally "tuning in" on the language of the Psalms. * Two secret ways you can use relaxation to aid the memorization process. These two methods alone are worth the price of this book because they will literally eliminate your stress and apprehension as you memorize the Psalms. * And much, much more ... These techniques have been used by real Bible students and scholars, most of whom previously considered themselves owners of a "bad memory," to make real strides in learning and memorizing the Psalms. Don't worry! None of these techniques are rocket science and they certainly don't require brain surgery or a PhD. Frankly, if you can memorize a short email address or the name of a movie, then you can use this system to memorize poetry as rich and diverse as the Psalms. Plus, everything you'll learn in this book applies to every other part of the Bible. And with a little imagination, the system you'll learn is easily transferable to other poetry too. But there's really no time to lose. Every day that you are not using this simple memorization system, you are literally stealing from yourself the joy of being able to effortlessly learn, memorize, recall and recite the Psalms as you easily expand the natural abilities of your mind.

Excavating the Memory Palace

Excavating the Memory Palace PDF Author: Seth Long
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022669528X
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
With the prevalence of smartphones, massive data storage, and search engines, we might think of today as the height of the information age. In reality, every era has faced its own challenges of storing, organizing, and accessing information. While they lacked digital devices, our ancestors, when faced with information overload, utilized some of the same techniques that underlie our modern interfaces: they visualized and spatialized data, tying it to the emotional and sensory spaces of memory, thereby turning their minds into a visual interface for accessing information. In Excavating the Memory Palace, Seth David Long mines the history of Europe’s arts of memory to find the origins of today’s data visualizations, unearthing how ancient constructions of cognitive pathways paved the way for modern technological interfaces. Looking to techniques like the memory palace, he finds the ways that information has been tied to sensory and visual experience, turning raw data into lucid knowledge. From the icons of smart phone screens to massive network graphs, Long shows us the ancestry of the cyberscape and unveils the history of memory as a creative act.

Memory and the City in Ancient Israel

Memory and the City in Ancient Israel PDF Author: Diana V. Edelman
Publisher: Penn State Press
ISBN: 1575067129
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 353

Book Description
Ancient cities served as the actual, worldly landscape populated by “material” sites of memory. Some of these sites were personal and others were directly and intentionally involved in the shaping of a collective social memory, such as palaces, temples, inscriptions, walls, and gates. Many cities were also sites of social memory in a very different way. Like Babylon, Nineveh, or Jerusalem, they served as ciphers that activated and communicated various mnemonic worlds as they integrated multiple images, remembered events, and provided a variety of meanings in diverse ancient communities. Memory and the City in Ancient Israel contributes to the study of social memory in ancient Israel in the late Persian and early Hellenistic periods by exploring “the city,” both urban spaces and urban centers. It opens with a study that compares basic conceptualizing tendencies of cities in Mesopotamia with their counterparts in ancient Israel. Its essays then explore memories of gates, domestic spaces, threshing floors, palaces, city gardens and parks, natural and “domesticated” water in urban settings, cisterns, and wells. Finally, the studies turn to particular cities of memory in ancient Israel: Jerusalem, Samaria, Shechem, Mizpah, Tyre, Nineveh, and Babylon. The volume, which emerged from meetings of the European Association of Biblical Studies, includes the work of Stéphanie Anthonioz, Yairah Amit, Ehud Ben Zvi, Kåre Berge, Diana Edelman, Hadi Ghantous, Anne Katrine Gudme, Philippe Guillaume, Russell Hobson, Steven W. Holloway, Francis Landy, Daniel Pioske, Ulrike Sals, Carla Sulzbach, Karolien Vermeulen, and Carey Walsh.

The Art of Memory

The Art of Memory PDF Author: Frances A Yates
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 1448104130
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 474

Book Description
This unique and brilliant book is a history of human knowledge. Before the invention of printing, a trained memory was of vital importance. Based on a technique of impressing 'places' and 'images' on the mind, the ancient Greeks created an elaborate memory system which in turn was inherited by the Romans and passed into the European tradition, to be revived, in occult form, during the Renaissance. Frances Yates sheds light on Dante’s Divine Comedy, the form of the Shakespearian theatre and the history of ancient architecture; The Art of Memory is an invaluable contribution to aesthetics and psychology, and to the history of philosophy, of science and of literature.
