To Sir George Chalmers (article in 'le Weekly Magazine, Patrick Gibson (view of the Arts in Great Britain: Edinburglz Annual Register, Allan Cunningham and John Burnet amongst the earlier writers; to Alexander Fraser, R. A. M. Stevenson, J. M. Gray, my predecessor at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Robert Brydall, of those recently dead; and to Sir Walter Armstrong, Mr. E.
