Science and Spirit Reconciled

Science and Spirit Reconciled PDF Author: Alan A. D. Cohen
Publisher: Dog Ear Publishing
ISBN: 1598586211
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 122

Book Description
Recent discoveries in quantum mechanics prove that no atomic particle can exist separately from the rest of creation; therefore only unity exists. This has important implications. For example, harm we do to our environment will show up as harm we do to ourselves. Also, unity means we are intimately related to each other. And separation leads only to selfishness and destruction. This awareness could not have come at a more opportune moment because, if we persist in our belief in separation, we will continue to use science and technology in the service of greed. Two consequences will follow. 1 -The majority of humans will die gasping for breath resulting from irreversible air pollution. 2 - Continued exploitation of the third world will end in nuclear war. Only our acceptance of unity will enable us to survive. But unity is not material, so it can only be spiritual. From this, new, incredible horizons of mystery unfold. We will see that we humans are essentially divine, and mind will be recognized as an ocean of consciousness in which we swim like fishes in a universal sea. Also, three scientifically valid spiritual laws will appear. They are: 1. The Law of Unity. All is one and one is divine. Therefore each apparently separate entity deserves respect appropriate to its essential divinity. 2. The Law of Karma. We get back what we give out. Therefore we are entirely responsible for our world and everything we experience within it. 3. The Law of Love. It is the motive behind the action, not the action itself that determines its consequence. It follows from this that, if we continue to allow greed to motivate our technology, disaster will follow. Therefore, we must replace the profit motive by the love motive. Many people see the need for this, but they see no way to achieve it. However, it is surprisingly simple. Anybody can do it. Examples are given of an office worker, a builder and a waitress, who, by their belief in unity, enable their enlightening influence to spread to the most distant star. The author presents scientific evidence in support of his assertions. He also shows how correlations from ancient wisdom complement our awareness of the new spirituality now apparent in science.

A Study in Karma

A Study in Karma PDF Author: Annie Besant
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 132

Book Description
AMONG the many illuminating gifts to the western world, conveyed to it by the medium of the Theosophical Society, that of the knowledge of karma comes, perhaps, next in importance to that of reincarnation. It removes human thought and desire from the region of arbitrary happenings to the realm of law, and thus places man's future under his own control in proportion to the amount of his knowledge

Karma and the Rise of Buddhism in the West

Karma and the Rise of Buddhism in the West PDF Author: Philip H. Richman
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 0557555272
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 352

Book Description
In this book I address the need for a critical treatment of karma for practitioners of Buddhism in the West. I discuss the basic meaning of karma and its relevance to western Buddhism. Emphasis is on the impact of the scientific world-view, interest in meditation and attitudes towards reincarnation. A generalized approach provides analysis and constructive terminology for thinking about karma and reincarnation. Terms such as karmic awareness and karmic significance point to an epistemology of karma. "Karmic analysis" extends the meaning of karma to art, history and literature. Karma is shown to be implicit in all cultures.Topics include the significance of death, the nature of action, sin, salvation and blame. Karmic cause and effect is contrasted with scientific causality. A distinction is drawn between the contemplative life and thinking about karma mainly in terms of a set of propositions to be proven as true or false.

The Universe in a Single Atom

The Universe in a Single Atom PDF Author: Dalai Lama
Publisher: Harmony
ISBN: 0767920813
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 226

Book Description
Galileo, Copernicus, Newton, Niels Bohr, Einstein. Their insights shook our perception of who we are and where we stand in the world, and in their wake have left an uneasy coexistence: science vs. religion, faith vs. empirical inquiry. Which is the keeper of truth? Which is the true path to understanding reality? After forty years of study with some of the greatest scientific minds, as well as a lifetime of meditative, spiritual, and philosophic study, the Dalai Lama presents a brilliant analysis of why all avenues of inquiry—scientific as well as spiritual—must be pursued in order to arrive at a complete picture of the truth. Through an examination of Darwinism and karma, quantum mechanics and philosophical insight into the nature of reality, neurobiology and the study of consciousness, the Dalai Lama draws significant parallels between contemplative and scientific examinations of reality. This breathtakingly personal examination is a tribute to the Dalai Lama’s teachers—both of science and spirituality. The legacy of this book is a vision of the world in which our different approaches to understanding ourselves, our universe, and one another can be brought together in the service of humanity.

Beyond The Observable - A philosophical take on scientific understanding

Beyond The Observable - A philosophical take on scientific understanding PDF Author: Vishal Agarwal and Aaryan Agrawal
Publisher: Leadstart Publishing Pvt Ltd
ISBN: 9355590563
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 163

Book Description
A philosophical take on scientific understanding Since their very dawn, humans have been inherently hungry and persistently foolish. Our curiosity has created a large system of knowledge–a forest, so to speak. Yet, almost all our knowledge is exhibited to us in a form that is inherently embedded in a particular discipline. But what if we free this knowledge from all subjective biases and absorb what it has to offer? While all of us do look at these metaphorical trees of knowledge individually, sometimes looking beyond teaches us more. But what can we learn when we take a step back and zoom out? What does, say, astrophysics teach us about our own equation of happiness? And the nature of an economy about our daily social interactions? These correlations open themselves up to interpretations for the reader, be it the purpose of humanity or the meaning of spirituality. Yet, on our quest for infinitely greater knowledge, will we ever reach the end?

Manifestations of Karma

Manifestations of Karma PDF Author: Rudolf Steiner

Category : Body, Mind & Spirit

Book Description
Why do people have such differing events and circumstances to deal with in their lives? What are the meanings of diseases, illnesses, accidents, and natural disasters? From his clairvoyant spiritual research, Rudolf Steiner speaks of karma, or destiny, as a reality -- an actual scientific phenomenon that can and should be understood today. He shows how, through a comprehension of karma, a person can begin to answer the inevitable questions that arise when they begin seriously to seek the meaning and purpose of life.
