Book Description
Machinery Directive & Harmonised Standards Directive 2006/42/EC(*) of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 May 2006 on machinery, and amending Directive 95/16/EC (recast) with last comunication references of harmonised standards(**) which have been generated by the HAS (Harmonised standards) database. Directive 2006/42/EC is a revised version of the Machinery Directive, the first version of which was adopted in 1989. The Directive has the dual aim of harmonising the health and safety requirements applicable to machinery on the basis of a high level of protection of health and safety, while ensuring the free circulation of machinery on the EU market. The machinery sector is an important part of the engineering industry and is one of the industrial mainstays of the Community economy. Machinery can be described as "an assembly, fitted with or intended to be fitted with a drive system other than directly applied human or animal effort, consisting of linked parts or components, at least one of which moves, and which are joined together for a specific application". European Commission Enterprice and Industry (*) Amendment: Directive 2009/127/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 amending Directive 2006/42/EC with regard to machinery for pesticide application. (**)Harmonised standards 02.03.2021 Since 1 December 2018 the references of harmonised standards are published in, and withdrawn from the Official Journal of the European Union by means of 'Commission implementing decisions'. The references published under Directive 2006/42/EC on Machinery are found in the Commission communication published in OJ C 092 of 9 March 2018 and in the Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2019/436 of 18 March 2019 (OJ L 75, 19 March 2019), in the Commission implementing Decision (EU) 2019/1766 of 23 October 2019 (OJ L L 270/94 del 24 October 2019) and in the Commission implementing Decision (EU) 2019/1863 of 6 November 2019 (OJ L 286/25 07 November 2019) listed below. Industrial Minerals and Their Uses
Author: Peter A. Ciullo
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 0815518080
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 625
Book Description
This multi-authored handbook is a unique cross-industry resource for formulators and compounders, and an invaluable reference for the producers of formulated commodities and industrial minerals. Monographs on each of the common functional industrial mineralsùasbestos, barite, calcium carbonate, diatomite, feldspar, gypsum, hormite, kaolin, mica, nepheline syenite, perlite, pyrophyllite, silica, smectite, talc, vermiculite, wollastonite, and zeoliteùinclude an overview of natural and commercial varieties, market size, and application areas. These are supported by descriptions of mineral structures and the wedding of minerals and chemicals through mineral surface modification. This orientation to the minerals and their uses forms the foundation for chapters where they are presented in the context of the overall technology of various consuming industries. Each of these industry-specific presentations covers both the chemical and mineral raw materials used by the formulator, how these are combined, and relevant test methods. These chapters serve a dual purpose. Each clarifies for technologists the function and value of the mineral constituents of their products. Equally important, they provide a primer on the technology of industries other than their own, so that raw material, formulation, processing and testing considerations can be compared and contrasted. The book concludes with a formulary demonstrating how specific mineral and chemical ingredients are actually compounded in major application areas, and technical data on scores of commercial mineral products.

Materials Matter
Author: Ken Geiser
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 9780262262811
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 502
Book Description
The products we purchase and use are assembled from a wide range of naturally occurring and manufactured materials. But too often we create hazards for the ecosystem and human health as we mine, process, distribute, use, and dispose of these materials. Until recently, most research has focused on the waste end of material cycles. This book argues that the safest and least costly point at which to avoid environmental damage is when materials are first designed and selected for use in industrial production. Materials Matter presents convincing evidence that we can use fewer materials and eliminate the use of many toxic chemicals by focusing directly on material (chemical) use when products are designed. It also shows how manufacturers can save money by increasing the effectiveness of material use and reducing the use of toxic chemicals. It advocates new directions for the material sciences and government policies on materials. And it argues that manufacturers, suppliers, and customers need to set more socially responsible policies for products and services to achieve higher environmental and health goals.

Safety with Machinery
Author: John Ridley
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136367489
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 308
Book Description
John Ridley and Dick Pearce, both recognized specialists in machinery safety, guide the reader through the various standards, regulations and best practices relating to the safe design and use of machinery and show which standard is relevant for which type of machine. Safety with Machinery provides a basic grounding in machinery safety and covers safeguarding philosophy and strategy, typical hazards, risk assessment and reduction, guarding techniques, ergonomic considerations, safe use of equipment and plant layout. All types of safeguards are discussed – mechanical, interlocking, electrical / electronic / programmable, hydraulic, pneumatic. The new edition has been updated throughout in line with changes in regulations and standards. The section on electric, electronic and programmable safety systems has been expanded to reflect their increasing importance. The book now focuses on the harmonised standards (e.g. EN ISO 13849, IEC/EN 61131-2) which can be used by manufacturers to self-certify their machines for the European market without the need for third party examination, but also covers other relevant standards (e.g. IEC 62061). Many practical examples set the regulations in context and assist in the interpretation of the various standards. Safety with Machinery is essential reading for all engineers involved in machinery design and maintenance all over the world as every machine sold within or into the EU needs to conform to the harmonised standards. It also provides health and safety professionals, students and employee representatives, as well as certification bodies, health and safety inspectors and safety regulators with a comprehensive overview of machinery safety.
