This book describes a natural unification of all humans and respect for all sentient life. The basis for unification is the recognition that all humans are equal members of the 200,000 year-old African (Source-Ken) family. With a consciousness change, World African can become the drivers of unification. World Africans are currently attached to the myth imposed by their enslavers and colonizers, the divisive Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). It requires self-hate, perhaps unconscious, to believe in a religion whose original Jewish interpretation of the Ham-Noah myth was that African people were cursed. The Abrahamic-Myths are built upon three principles: Law, Monotheism, and Specialness. Law and Monotheism are ancient African inventions. Specialness is a Jewish invention done while captive in Babylon. The transmutation proposed in this book is science-based: Africans were the first people and they even now have more genetic diversity than the rest of humanity. World Africans can believe that they are Preeminent in Nature. Science shows the African-hominin-ancestors co-created with Nature the human body including the vaunted brain. Courageously, World Africans can bring to consciousness the genetic-basis of their natural Specialness to overcome the 1,500 year legacy of slavery and stimulate equality, Equitocracy, for all people.

Stages of Transmutation: Science Fiction, Biology, and Environmental Posthumanism develops the theoretical perspective of environmental posthumanism through analyses of acclaimed science fiction novels by Greg Bear, Octavia Butler, Kim Stanley Robinson, and Jeff VanderMeer, in which the human species suddenly transforms in response to new or changing environments. Narrating dramatic ecological events of human-to-nonhuman encounter, invasion, and transmutation, these novels allow the reader to understand the planet as an unstable stage for evolution and the human body as a home for bacteria and viruses. Idema argues that by drawing tension from biological theories of interaction and emergence (e.g. symbiogenesis, epigenetics), these works unsettle conventional relations among characters, technologies, story-worlds, and emplotment, refiguring the psychosocial work of the novel as always already biophysical. Problematizing a desire to compartmentalize and control life as the property of human subjects, these novels imagine life as an environmentally mediated, staged event that enlists human and nonhuman actors. Idema demonstrates how literary narratives of transmutation render biological lessons of environmental instability and ecological interdependence both meaningful and urgent—a vital task in a time of mass extinction, hyperpollution, and climate change. This volume is an important intervention for scholars of the environmental humanities, posthumanism, literature and science, and science and technology studies.

It is starkly apparent that a shift is needed in our dominant structural systems – and that by addressing the collective thinking that has created and maintained these systems, scholars can do their part to catalyze such a shift. The interdisciplinary field known as the Anthropology of Consciousness offers important insights for enacting this necessary shift. This book draws on the work of a group of diverse scholars to explore what the intersection of anthropology and consciousness studies can contribute to the “public turn” within anthropology and the academy in general. Its twelve chapters span disparate geographies and disciplinary frameworks, yet cohere in their focus on common themes such as imagination, empathy, agency, dialogue, and ethics. The answers to the question “So What? Now What?” differ for a linguistic anthropologist in the South Pacific, an environmental educator in Hawai‘i, a grant-writing anthropologist serving a refugee agency in Portland, Oregon and the founder of a girls’ school in Brazil.
