Governing by Numbers

Governing by Numbers PDF Author: Edward C Page
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1847310990
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
Governing by Numbers is a jargon-free account of how delegated legislation - laws that do not pass through the full legislative scrutiny to which Acts of Parliament are subjected - is made. It is based on new research involving an analysis of nearly 30,000 pieces of delegated legislation; detailed investigation of 46 recent regulations based on in-depth interviews with those involved in developing, writing and scrutinising them and a major survey of nearly 400 interest groups. Delegated legislation is examined as a form of "everyday policy-making". It deals with important issues, from the level of welfare benefits to weapons exports, animal health and the prevention of air pollution, yet has been largely ignored in studies of the British political and administrative system. This book analyses the distinctive character of everyday policy making and the implications of how it works for our understanding of British democracy.

Family Support - Linking Project Evaluation to Policy Analysis PDF Author: John Pinkerton
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351767968
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 163

Book Description
This title was first published in 2000: This book provides an exploration of the link between individualized project evaluation and policy analysis. The conceptual and legislative frameworks which contextualize family support are explored in full. By drawing on existing literature and examining the political and legislative aspects of family support the book aims to provide in one volume accessible and up to date information and discussion of key developments within family support, in the UK and internationally as well as within Northern Ireland where the research is set. Five family support settings are selected for close examination by the research and the key evaluation questions applied. The book details the methodology employed and explores exactly how the settings were organized for family support. Additionally the book seeks to identify needs in the context of family support across the range of settings by examining indicators of potential need. Services appropriate to family support were also analyzed across the range of settings. Finally the book reviews the settings against criteria for the evaluation and development of projects considered to be family support.

Information Rights

Information Rights PDF Author: Philip Coppel KC
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1509922474
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 4737

Book Description
Retaining the position it has held since first publication, the fifth edition of this leading practitioner text on information law has been thoroughly re-worked to provide comprehensive coverage of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the GDPR. Information Rights has been cited by the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and others, and is used by practitioners, judges and all those who practise in the field. The new edition maintains its style of succinct statements of principle, supported by case law, legislative provisions and statutory guidance. Reflecting its enlarged scope and to maintain easy referencing, the work has been arranged into two volumes. The first volume is a 1,250-page commentary, divided into six parts. The first part is an overview and introduction to overarching principles. The second part provides an authoritative treatment of the data protection regime. This covers all four forms of processing (general, applied, law enforcement and security services) under the GDPR and DPA 2018. Each obligation and each right is comprehensively treated, with reference to all known case-law, both domestic and EU, including those dealing with analogous provisions in the previous data protection regime. The third part provides a detailed treatment of the environmental information regime. This recognises the treaty provenance of the regime and its distinct requirements. The fourth part continues to provide the most thorough analysis available of the Freedom of Information Act and its Scottish counterpart. As with earlier editions, every tribunal and court decision has been reviewed and, where required, referenced. The fifth part considers other sources of information rights, including common law rights, local government rights and subject-specific statutory information access regimes (eg health records, court records, audit information etc). The final part deals with practice and procedure, examining appeal and regulatory processes, criminal sanctions and so forth. The second volume comprises extensive annotated statutory material, including the DPA 2018, the GDPR, FOIA, subordinate legislation, international conventions and statutory guidance. The law is stated as at 1st February 2020.
