Religion and International Law
Author: Robert Uerpmann-Wittzack
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004349154
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 397
Book Description
Growing religious antagonisms are challenging the ultimate goal of ‘living together’ in peaceful societies. Living together explores international law responses, beginning with their historic roots, before the perspective shifts to the role of religious institutions and religious law. Contributions of different human rights bodies are analyzed, before further sections deal with the international protection of religion, the relationship between religious beliefs and freedom of expression, and the roles of other individual rights. Religion and International Law originates from the long-standing cooperation between the German and the French Societies of International Law, thus bringing together the traditions of French laicism and a cooperative German approach. Experts from Austria, Italy, Poland, Portugal and the UK complement the pan-European perspective.

Evangile, moralité et lois civiles. Gospel, Morality, and Civil Law
Author: Joseph Famerée
Publisher: LIT Verlag Münster
ISBN: 3643906846
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 371
Book Description
What sort of differentiations and what kind of articulations are there between religious authority, morality, and civil laws? This question takes place at the heart of the contemporary, its debates, its challenges, its aporias. Presented here is a broad historical record, presentations of present situations-concerning Islam, the United States, the Orthodox world, and the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights-and the theological revivals articulated Post-Vatican II. In the background are the motives of the so-called natural law, human rights, and a dialectic of the "two Reigns." The majority of this text is in French, with seven essays in English. (Series: Christianity and History. Series of the John XXIII Foundation for Religious Studies in Bologna, Vol. 13) [Subject: Religious Studies, Christianity]

I have complained to the Lords about him, and hope there will be a letter go from the Board to the town to call for an account of the whole business. One of the charges against Laud, made by Prynne, the great Parliamentary lawyer, was that his chaplain, Morgan Owen, had set up images of the Virgin and Child, holding a small crucifix, over the new south porch of St. Marys, which he had built at a cost of 230Z., in lieu, it is said, of a Latin sermon. They still keep at Lambeth the very copy of Prynnes Canterburys Doom which Charles I. read, with the clear bold Bum spiro spero, C.R., written on the fly-leaf by the King himself. Hobbes notes how much the doctrine and method of the University contributed to the troubles, and Prynne had cruel wrongs to remember. In 1635 the Caroline charter confirmed the privileges of the University, and their rights over the city, notwithstanding a protest from the citizens; but Laud kept vigilant watch over the city. His History of his Chancellorship supplies full details. He got a letter from the Council, ordering the demolition of the cottages erected upon the town ditch and the town wall, the back way towards the Castle, and in the middle of the street by Trinity College gate, and near a place called Smithgate. Pulling down the cottages made Smithgate passable for coaches. And by his own proclamation he named a toll-gatherer for the market, which office hath of late times been discontinued; by reason whereof divers citizens, inhabiting in or near the corn market, have taken upon them to keep and set forth on market days public bushels and measures for the measuring of corn and grain, and take toll for the same...
