Refinement Monoids, Equidecomposability Types, and Boolean Inverse Semigroups

Refinement Monoids, Equidecomposability Types, and Boolean Inverse Semigroups PDF Author: Friedrich Wehrung
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319615998
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Adopting a new universal algebraic approach, this book explores and consolidates the link between Tarski's classical theory of equidecomposability types monoids, abstract measure theory (in the spirit of Hans Dobbertin's work on monoid-valued measures on Boolean algebras) and the nonstable K-theory of rings. This is done via the study of a monoid invariant, defined on Boolean inverse semigroups, called the type monoid. The new techniques contrast with the currently available topological approaches. Many positive results, but also many counterexamples, are provided.

Operator Theory, Functional Analysis and Applications

Operator Theory, Functional Analysis and Applications PDF Author: M. Amélia Bastos
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030519457
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 654

Book Description
This book presents 30 articles on the topic areas discussed at the 30th “International Workshop on Operator Theory and its Applications”, held in Lisbon in July 2019. The contributions include both expository essays and original research papers reflecting recent advances in the traditional IWOTA areas and emerging adjacent fields, as well as the applications of Operator Theory and Functional Analysis. The topics range from C*–algebras and Banach *–algebras, Sturm-Liouville theory, integrable systems, dilation theory, frame theory, Toeplitz, Hankel, and singular integral operators, to questions from lattice, group and matrix theories, complex analysis, harmonic analysis, and function spaces. Given its scope, the book is chiefly intended for researchers and graduate students in the areas of Operator Theory, Functional Analysis, their applications and adjacent fields.

Pages : 181

Book Description
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 24th IFIP WG 1.3 International Workshop on Algebraic Development Techniques, WADT 2018, held in Egham, UK in July 2018. The 9 revised papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 13 submissions. The contributed presentations covered a range of topics: specification and modelling languages such as CASL, Event-B, Maude, MMT, and SRML; foundations of system specification such as graph transformation, categorical semantics, fuzzy and temporal logics, institutions, module systems and parameterization, refinement, static analysis, and substitutions; and applications including categorical programming, communicating finite state machines, neuralsymbolicintegration, relational databases, and service-oriented computing.

Inverse Semigroups, The Theory Of Partial Symmetries

Inverse Semigroups, The Theory Of Partial Symmetries PDF Author: Mark V Lawson
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814496715
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 426

Book Description
Symmetry is one of the most important organising principles in the natural sciences. The mathematical theory of symmetry has long been associated with group theory, but it is a basic premise of this book that there are aspects of symmetry which are more faithfully represented by a generalization of groups called inverse semigroups. The theory of inverse semigroups is described from its origins in the foundations of differential geometry through to its most recent applications in combinatorial group theory, and the theory tilings.

Leavitt Path Algebras

Leavitt Path Algebras PDF Author: Gene Abrams
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1447173449
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 296

Book Description
This book offers a comprehensive introduction by three of the leading experts in the field, collecting fundamental results and open problems in a single volume. Since Leavitt path algebras were first defined in 2005, interest in these algebras has grown substantially, with ring theorists as well as researchers working in graph C*-algebras, group theory and symbolic dynamics attracted to the topic. Providing a historical perspective on the subject, the authors review existing arguments, establish new results, and outline the major themes and ring-theoretic concepts, such as the ideal structure, Z-grading and the close link between Leavitt path algebras and graph C*-algebras. The book also presents key lines of current research, including the Algebraic Kirchberg Phillips Question, various additional classification questions, and connections to noncommutative algebraic geometry. Leavitt Path Algebras will appeal to graduate students and researchers working in the field and related areas, such as C*-algebras and symbolic dynamics. With its descriptive writing style, this book is highly accessible.

Combinatorial Set Theory

Combinatorial Set Theory PDF Author: Lorenz J. Halbeisen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319602314
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 586

Book Description
This book, now in a thoroughly revised second edition, provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to modern set theory. Following an overview of basic notions in combinatorics and first-order logic, the author outlines the main topics of classical set theory in the second part, including Ramsey theory and the axiom of choice. The revised edition contains new permutation models and recent results in set theory without the axiom of choice. The third part explains the sophisticated technique of forcing in great detail, now including a separate chapter on Suslin’s problem. The technique is used to show that certain statements are neither provable nor disprovable from the axioms of set theory. In the final part, some topics of classical set theory are revisited and further developed in light of forcing, with new chapters on Sacks Forcing and Shelah’s astonishing construction of a model with finitely many Ramsey ultrafilters. Written for graduate students in axiomatic set theory, Combinatorial Set Theory will appeal to all researchers interested in the foundations of mathematics. With extensive reference lists and historical remarks at the end of each chapter, this book is suitable for self-study.
