Powell was a private in the Middlesex Co., New Jersey Militia and marched under Colonel Nathaniel Heard to Staten Island, New York 15 February 1776. Later, he moved with his family to Bucks Co., Pennsylvania ca. 1785. He was the father of twelve children. Descendants lived primarily in Virginia, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
