Book Description
Excerpt from Reconnaissance of the Geology and Oil Prospects of Northwestern Oregon This report is based on a hasty reconnaissance made during the summer of 1910 and on several explorations made by the writer in the years 1900 to 1905. In the summer of 1910 material assistance in the field was rendered by Mr. George A. Macready and Mr. Reese F. Rogers, who examined many supposed oil seeps and other reported indications and gathered notes on the geology of the region. In March, 1914, some new reports of oil seeps were investigated, but nothing was found to change the generally negative conclusion of the earlier work. Oil Prospecting, Drilling and Extraction (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Forest John Swears Sur

Category : Technology & Engineering

Pages : 74

Book Description
Excerpt from Oil Prospecting, Drilling and Extraction In the mining industry for the prospector, miner, geologist and engineer many books have been written. However, the prospector for oil, the driller and the general operator have never had any book giving. Any classified and systematic data. In this book I have, therefore, attempted to fulfill the requirements of the last mentioned. Especially for Canada is this now needed, where vast areas of oil formations with tremendous productive potentialities lie unprospected when wells are being drilled in large numbers in other parts of the World where infinitely fewer indications for large production existed at the initial stage of development. If the petroleum prospector can work from the standpoint of the trained geologist his efforts will be greatly simplified and will be much more effective. This book is designed to furnish the information that will permit the. Prospector to work in. This way. Petroleum geology has been a specialized profession only within the last ten years. Previous to that time all oil men chose locations for wells and did all other work by chance and by guess. Prospecting for Oil and Gas (Classic Reprint)

Prospecting for Oil and Gas (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: L. S. Panyity
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780267913459
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
Excerpt from Prospecting for Oil and Gas To that class who are interested only in the investing or speculating features of the industry, geology is almost unknown. Advertisements or prospectuses of oil and gas ventures are often coupled with a geological report, and whether such report is merely an extract or is given in full, the investing public is unable to analyze its contents and pass judgment upon its merits. There are valuable books written on this subject, the majority of which are intended for the professional geologist, and although invaluable to him, they are too technical or cover only a certain branch of oil and gas prospecting and producing. The profes sioual geologist will notice that in this book an attempt is made to put before practical oil men and the general public the various tools and methods of the scientific oil and gas prospector of the present day, avoiding lengthy discussions and confining its scope mostly to descriptions and explanations, by means of which it is hoped that those interested will be brought into a more intimate relationship with the geologist, and thus they may realize just what may be expected of him and how much service he may render in eliminating a great number of unnecessary chance methods frequently used at the present day. Another class of readers to whom the author hopes this treatise will be of assistance is composed of those who intend to take up and follow the profession of Oil and Gas Geology. For them it may serve as an elementary work on the subject and form an outline of the various phases of study that make up this sub jcet. They will find the different branches of the science treated briefly, and along those lines which will lead the student in his further study and researches. In short, the methods of the leading oil and gas companies are described in a brief manner, and those investigating will find them in this volume.
