American Railway Accounting

American Railway Accounting PDF Author: Henry C. Adams
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780260657619
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 484

Book Description
Excerpt from American Railway Accounting: A Commentary The second phase Of the original title met with a similar fate. To consider the many uses of a well devised system of accounts, would raise most of the problems involved in industrial statistics. This, too, covers a field of analysis of sufficient importance to claim individual treatment, and, for this reason, a consideration of the uses as well as the abuses of business records was set aside. What remains is not very extensive, so far as the text is concerned, but it is dominated by a single purpose. It is a Commentary on the standard system of railway accounts promulgated for and used by American railways. It is hoped that this simple analysis of a standardized system of business records will prove helpful to three classes of readers. Excerpt from Railway Accounting Under Federal Requirements The Association of American Railway Accounting Officers, which sprang into existence in 1887, has always co-operated with the Interstate Commerce Commission and that co-opera tion has been appreciated. For many years prior to and since the passage of the Hepburn Act, the Accounting Officers invited representatives of the Interstate Commerce Commission to meet with them in their annual conventions, where they were accord ed the privilege of the floor, and in that way, the Accounting Officers all over the United States formed an acquaintance with those representatives which has been helpful all through the years, to a better understanding between the Railway Ac counting Officers and the accounting representatives of the Interstate Commerce Commission. Railroad Accounting (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: William E. Hooper

Book Description
Excerpt from Railroad Accounting Sinoe railroad companies engaged in interstate com merce are required by law to keep their accounts in accord ance with the rules prescribed by the Interstate Commerce Commission, these rules must necessarily form the basis of any treatise on railroad accounting. I have not made any attempt to discuss the question of whether or not these rules are the best that might be devised. It is not of so much importance to the investor who desires to make an intelligent study of a railroad company's annual report that the system of accounts used be theoretically perfect as it is that there should be a uniform system. My object has been to outline in a general way the information that may be derived from a study of railroad accounts compiled in the manner prescribed by the Interstate Commerce Com mission. Above all, I have attempted to show the why of the accounts. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Electric Railway Accounting, 1906 PDF Author: Walter Belding Brockway
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780332277868
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 98

Book Description
Excerpt from Electric Railway Accounting, 1906: The Monthly Report, the Accounting Department, and the Accountant Thus, the annual report takes a different place from that occupied by the monthly report, and as it is issued annu ally it should contain much information not contained in the monthly report. On the other hand, on account of its semi public character, it may properly not contain all of the in formation considered as of essential importance in an operat ing monthly report. It is not intended to convey the impression that secrecy should be practiced, but that by the different use to which it is put the annual report need not necessarily be so detailed in its composition and yet fulfill its purpose. For instance, the information relating to the organization, the track mileage, the equipment, the changes in the funded and other debt, and the assets, and the information relating to the physical con dition of the property, should all be treated and compared with the previous year, and the changes in a year's work should be pointed out and explained. All this, on account of its monthly repetition, may be considered unnecessary for a monthly report, although of importance in an annual report. And for the reasons already explained, the extended details of income and Operating may safely be omitted from the annual report and the results given in totals.
