Author: Willm Uwe Kampen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319169491
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 147
Book Description
This book presents a systematic survey of different local treatments in inflammatory joint diseases and their potential side effects and complications. Both surgical therapies and pharmaceutical strategies involving local or systemic application of anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating drugs are addressed. Special emphasis is placed on nuclear medicine therapy by intra-articular instillation of beta radiation emitters, known as radiosynoviorthesis or radiation synovectomy. Possible complications, in particular radionecrosis, infection, and thromboembolism, are described and available treatment strategies are examined in detail. In addition, radiation safety considerations are critically reviewed and relevant clinical questions are discussed. While radiosynoviorthesis is an effective and safe treatment if a proper indication is secured and if the application is performed by an experienced nuclear medicine physician, local complications can never be excluded with certainty. This book will support physicians who are engaged in the care and treatment of patients with inflammatory joint disease, approximately 30,000 of whom undergo radiosynoviorthesis in Europe each year.

The Rheumatoid Hip
Author: Heiner Thabe
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642758878
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 281
Book Description
Rheumatoid arthritis demands intensive interdisciplinary cooperation between the orthopaedic surgeon and internist, and this monograph provides all the information necessary for the specialist dealing with inflammatory changes of the hip joint in rheumatoid arthritis. The reaction of the joint to rheumatoid arthritis is generally uniform, but the diagnoses may vary. For this reason, particular attention is paid to the differential diagnosis of the chronic inflammatory changes at the hip joint. The course of the disease is outlined, so that varying treatment approaches can be understood. The book describes the medical and the physical treatment of the hip joint, including discussion of the mechanisms of action and side effects that may occur. The options for conservative orthopedic treatment and for operative intervention are carefully considered. The broad spectrum of treatment principles, courses of action and results that are discussed will aid every physician interested in the rheumatoid hip.

Nuclear Medicine Therapy
Author: Cumali Aktolun
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461440211
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 445
Book Description
Nuclear Medicine Therapy presents the state of the art in targeted radionuclide therapy, both in clinical practice and contemporary clinical investigation and trials. With contributions from an internationally-distinguished group of physicians and scientists, the book is devoted entirely to the use of nuclear medicine techniques and technology for therapy of malignant and benign diseases. Individual chapters cover the scientific principles and clinical applications of radionuclide therapy and the state of clinical trials of agents currently under investigation in the therapy of tumors involving virtually every organ system. Due to overlapping interest in techniques, indications, and clinical use, the development of radionuclide therapy attracts considerable input from other medical specialists whose collaboration is essential, including radiation and medical oncologists, hematologists, diagnostic radiologists, hepatologists, endocrinologists, and rheumatologists. And because radionuclide therapy is a rapidly evolving field of nuclear medicine, it is the aim of this volume to appeal to all specialists involved in targeted radionuclide therapy and to contribute to the standardization of the practice globally.
