The Algebraic Structure of Group Rings

The Algebraic Structure of Group Rings PDF Author: Donald S. Passman
Publisher: Courier Corporation
ISBN: 0486482065
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 754

Book Description
"'Highly recommended' by the Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society, this book offers a comprehensive, self-contained treatment of group rings. The subject involves the intersection of two essentially different disciplines, group theory and ring theory. The Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society hailed this treatment as 'a majestic account,' proclaiming it "encyclopedic and lucid." 1985 edition"--

The Jacobson Radical of Group Algebras

The Jacobson Radical of Group Algebras PDF Author: G. Karpilovsky
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080872468
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 543

Book Description
Let G be a finite group and let F be a field. It is well known that linear representations of G over F can be interpreted as modules over the group algebra FG. Thus the investigation of ring-theoretic structure of the Jacobson radical J(FG) of FG is of fundamental importance. During the last two decades the subject has been pursued by a number of researchers and many interesting results have been obtained. This volume examines these results. The main body of the theory is presented, giving the central ideas, the basic results and the fundamental methods. It is assumed that the reader has had the equivalent of a standard first-year graduate algebra course, thus familiarity with basic ring-theoretic and group-theoretic concepts and an understanding of elementary properties of modules, tensor products and fields. A chapter on algebraic preliminaries is included, providing a survey of topics needed later in the book. There is a fairly large bibliography of works which are either directly relevant to the text or offer supplementary material of interest.

Infinite Group Rings

Infinite Group Rings PDF Author: Donald S. Passman
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 176

Book Description
The algebraic study of group rings was initiated in 1949 by I. Kaplansky. The subject has been pursued by a small but growing number of researchers, and has reached a point in its development where a coherent account of the basic results is needed. That is the goal of this text. The topics covered are selective, with material balanced between ring theory and group theory, and a basic one year course in algebra should provide sufficient background for readers.

Methods in Ring Theory

Methods in Ring Theory PDF Author: Vesselin Drensky

Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 332

Book Description
"Furnishes important research papers and results on group algebras and PI-algebras presented recently at the Conference on Methods in Ring Theory held in Levico Terme, Italy-familiarizing researchers with the latest topics, techniques, and methodologies encompassing contemporary algebra."

The Jacobson Radical of Classical Rings

The Jacobson Radical of Classical Rings PDF Author: Gregory Karpilovsky
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Algebra
Languages : en
Pages : 592

Book Description
This book aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the structure of the Jacobson radical of classical rings. Special attention is drawn to the discoveries concerning the Jacobson radical of graded rings. The main objective has been to present an accessible, self-contained and detailed coverage of the present state of the subject, so that the reader can find in one place all that is needed for a thorough understanding of the main results, along with concrete information on how the ideas are applied.

Group and Semigroup Rings

Group and Semigroup Rings PDF Author: G. Karpilovsky
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080872379
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 277

Book Description
A broad range of topics is covered here, including commutative monoid rings, the Jacobson radical of semigroup rings, blocks of modular group algebras, nilpotency index of the radical of group algebras, the isomorphism problem for group rings, inverse semigroup algebras and the Picard group of an abelian group ring. The survey lectures provide an up-to-date account of the current state of the subject and form a comprehensive introduction for intending researchers.

Ring Constructions and Applications

Ring Constructions and Applications PDF Author: Andrei V. Kelarev
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9810247451
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 218

Book Description
This book contains the definitions of several ring constructions used in various applications. The concept of a groupoid-graded ring includes many of these constructions as special cases and makes it possible to unify the exposition. Recent research results on groupoid-graded rings and more specialized constructions are presented. In addition, there is a chapter containing open problems currently considered in the literature. Ring Constructions and Applications can serve as an excellent introduction for graduate students to many ring constructions as well as to essential basic concepts of group, semigroup and ring theories used in proofs.
