Planning and Design Perspectives for Land Take Containment

Planning and Design Perspectives for Land Take Containment PDF Author: Benedetta Giudice
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030910660
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 136

Book Description
This book aims to provide a framework for the concept of land take, the practice by which natural lands are lost to artificial land development practices, and present its ecological implications in urban environments. In particular, the book intends to contextualize land take and its ecological implications in the field of planning through the analysis of the evolution of the relationship that exists between ecology and urban and regional planning, with case studies focusing on cities in Europe. Urban and regional planning (specifically in terms of tools, policies and strategies) play a central role in the redevelopment of this relationship, and through this perspective the text explores some operational criteria and guiding strategies for the creation of innovative scenarios of planning and design. The book is indeed mainly based upon an ecological planning-oriented perspective, with the attempt of creating a strong link between the plan and the project that will be useful for students, researchers, policy makers, and urban planners and designers.

Book Description
This Winter 2012 (X, 1) issue of Human Architecture: Journal of the Sociology of Self-Knowledge entitled “Decolonizing the University: Practicing Pluriversity” includes papers that were presented at the international conference entitled “Quelles universités et quels universalismes demain en Europe? un dialogue avec les Amériques (Which University and Universalism for Europe Tomorrow? A Dialogue with the Americas)” organized by the guest editors of the volume in association with the Institute des Hautes d’Etudes de l’Amerique Latine (IHEAL) and the support of the Université de Cergy-Pontoise and the Maison des Science de l’Homme (MSH) in Paris on June 10-11, 2010. The aim of the conference was to think about what it could mean to decolonize the Westernized university and its Eurocentric knowledge structures. The contributions to this volume are, in one way or another, decolonial interventions in the rethinking and decolonization of academic knowledge production and Western university structures. Contributors include: Capucine Boidin (also as journal issue guest editor), James Cohen (also as journal issue guest editor), Ramón Grosfoguel (also as journal issue guest editor), Boaventura de Sousa Santos, Manuela Boatcã, Julia Suárez-Krabbe, Kwame Nimako, Sandew Hira, Stephen Small, Nelson Maldonado-Torres, Anders Burman, Maria Paula Meneses, and Mohammad H. Tamdgidi (also as journal editor-in-chief). Human Architecture: Journal of the Sociology of Self-Knowledge is a publication of OKCIR: The Omar Khayyam Center for Integrative Research in Utopia, Mysticism, and Science (Utopystics). Governance and City Regions

Governance and City Regions PDF Author: Karsten Zimmermann
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1000536556
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 213

Book Description
City-regions are areas where the daily journeys for work, shopping and leisure frequently cross administrative boundaries. They are seen as engines of the national economy, but are also facing congestion and disparities. Thus, all over the world, governments attempt to increase problem-solving capacities in city-regions by institutional reform and a shift of functions. This book analyses the recent reforms and changes in the governance of city-regions in France, Germany and Italy. It covers themes such as the impact of austerity measures, territorial development, planning and state modernisation. The authors provide a systematic cross-country perspective on two levels, between six city-regions and between the national policy frameworks in these three countries. They use a solid comparative framework, which refers to the four dimensions functions, institutions and governance, ideas and space. They describe the course of the reforms, the motivations and the results, and consequently, they question the widespread metropolitan fever or resurgence of city-regions and provide a better understanding of recent changes in city-regional governance in Europe. The primary readership will be researchers and master students in planning, urban studies, urban geography, political science and governance studies, especially those interested in metropolitan regions and / or decentralisation. Due to the uniqueness of the work, the book will be of particular interest to scholars working on the comparative European dimension of territorial governance and planning.
