Muhammad Reconsidered
Author: Anna Bonta Moreland
Publisher: University of Notre Dame Pess
ISBN: 0268107270
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 225
Book Description
Muhammad Reconsidered rectifies the failures of scholarly attempts to understand Islam in the West and to take Islamic theology seriously. Engaging Islam from deep within the Christian tradition by addressing the question of the prophethood of Muhammad, Anna Bonta Moreland calls for a retrieval of Thomistic thought on prophecy. Without either appropriating the prophet as an unwitting Christian or reducing both Christianity and Islam to a common denominator, Moreland studies Muhammad within a Christian theology of revelation. This lens leads to a more sophisticated understanding of Islam, one that honors the integrity of the Catholic tradition and argues for the possibility in principle of Muhammad as a religious prophet. Moreland sets the stage for this inquiry through an intertextual reading of the key Vatican II documents on Islam and on Christian revelation. She then uses Aquinas's treatment of prophecy to address the case of whether Muhammad is a prophet in Christian terms. Muhammad Reconsidered examines the work of several Christian theologians, including W. Montgomery Watt, Hans Küng, Kenneth Cragg, David Kerr, and Jacques Jomier, O.P., and then draws upon the practice of analogical reasoning in the theology of religious pluralism to show that a term in one religion—in this case “prophecy”—can have purchase in another religious tradition. Muhammad Reconsidered not only is a constructive contribution to Catholic theology but also has enormous potential to help scholars reframe and comprehend Christian-Muslim relations.

The Prophecies of Muhammad
Author: Moustafa Zayed
Publisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
ISBN: 9781479192342
Category : Islam
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
The book reveals the fulfilled prophecies the Prophet made with amazing accuracy during his lifetime and after his passing -- even the ones that are still being fulfilled now, or will be fulfilled in the future. The book also reveals the signs of the "Hour," or the era leading to the end of time. Furthermore, it uncovers the Prophet's eye-witnessed prophecies describing Paradise and Hell Fire. The book not only reveals the signs of the "Hour" or the leading era to the end of time, but also the prophet's eye-witnessed prophecies describing the Hereafter as well. You will not be able to put it down racing to know what will happen in the world next! "What this book shows, without doubt, is evidence that would blow the mind of the reader, Muslim or non-Muslim, as to how much proof there is of God's existence, and that Muhammad is His last prophet. The biggest difficulty I faced was trying to limit the book to 350 pages, while the amount of the prophet's fulfilled prophecies, and miracles, physical and scientific was just astounding," said author Moustafa Zayed.

Islam as Education
Author: Aaron J. Ghiloni
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1978707606
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 211
Book Description
Motivated by the intellectual historian Shahab Ahmed’s observation that “the history of Islamic paideia has yet to be written,” Islam as Education explores multiple forms that the search for knowledge and the transmission of wisdom have taken in Islam, focusing on the classical period (800–1500 CE). Ghiloni draws on a wide range of Islamic primary source material, ranging from sacred texts and parables to neglected pedagogical literature and paintings. He depicts three Islamic religious practices—pilgrimage, prophecy, and jihad—as modes of pedagogy: embodied ways of defining, defusing, and defending sacred knowledge. Islam as Education’s educational heuristic not only aids in understanding Islam, but also provides guidance for intercultural and interreligious relations. Ghiloni argues that Islam’s grand (knowledge) tradition serves as a bridge between Muslims and non-Muslims, and compares it with the educational theory of John Dewey, the celebrated American pragmatist. Based on this discussion, a final chapter develops practical tools for learning from cultural and religious difference.
