The Beat of Life

The Beat of Life PDF Author: Reinhard Friedl
Publisher: Black Inc.
ISBN: 1743821530
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 222

Book Description
The heart is our most important organ and perhaps our most mysterious. Every day it pumps 9000 litres of blood and beats around 100,000 times. But the heart is more than just a pump. In all major human cultures, it is seen as the source of love, sympathy, joy, courage, strength and wisdom. Why is this so? Having witnessed the extraordinary complexity and unpredictability of human hearts in the operating theatre – each one individual in its make-up, like a fingerprint – heart surgeon Reinhard Friedl went on a search for answers. He examined closely the latest findings in neurocardiology and psychocardiology, and in The Beat of Life he shares his discoveries. In the tradition of Giulia Enders’ Gut and Norman Doidge’s The Brain That Changes Itself, he uses riveting personal stories to illustrate the complex relationship between the heart, the brain and the psyche. The Beat of Life ends with a plea: that we recognise the heart’s wisdom and adopt a more heart-centred way of living, which will lead to greater health.

Physics and Speculative Philosophy

Physics and Speculative Philosophy PDF Author: Timothy E. Eastman
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 311045047X
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Through both an historical and philosophical analysis of the concept of possibility, we show how including both potentiality and actuality as part of the real is both compatible with experience and contributes to solving key problems of fundamental process and emergence. The book is organized into four main sections that incorporate our routes to potentiality: (1) potentiality in modern science [history and philosophy; quantum physics and complexity]; (2) Relational Realism [ontological interpretation of quantum physics; philosophy and logic]; (3) Process Physics [ontological interpretation of relativity theory; physics and philosophy]; (4) on speculative philosophy and physics [limitations and approximations; process philosophy]. We conclude that certain fundamental problems in modern physics require complementary analyses of certain philosophical and metaphysical issues, and that such scholarship reveals intrinsic features and limits of determinism, potentiality and emergence that enable, among others, important progress on the quantum theory of measurement problem and new understandings of emergence.

Modeling and Control for Micro/Nano Devices and Systems

Modeling and Control for Micro/Nano Devices and Systems PDF Author: Ning Xi
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1466554061
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 175

Book Description
Micro/nano-scale engineering—especially the design and implementation of ultra-fast and ultra-scale energy devices, sensors, and cellular and molecular systems—remains a daunting challenge. Modeling and control has played an essential role in many technological breakthroughs throughout the course of history. Therefore, the need for a practical guide to modeling and control for micro/nano-scale devices and systems has emerged. The first edited volume to address this rapidly growing field, Modeling and Control for Micro/Nano Devices and Systems gives control engineers, lab managers, high-tech researchers, and graduate students easy access to the expert contributors’ cutting-edge knowledge of micro/nanotechnology, energy, and bio-systems. The editors offer an integrated view from theory to practice, covering diverse topics ranging from micro/nano-scale sensors to energy devices and control of biology systems in cellular and molecular levels. The book also features numerous case studies for modeling of micro/nano devices and systems, and explains how the models can be used for control and optimization purposes. Readers benefit from learning the latest modeling techniques for micro/nano-scale devices and systems, and then applying those techniques to their own research and development efforts.

Non-volatile Memories

Non-volatile Memories PDF Author: Pierre-Camille Lacaze
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 111879012X
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
Written for scientists, researchers, and engineers, Non-volatile Memories describes the recent research and implementations in relation to the design of a new generation of non-volatile electronic memories. The objective is to replace existing memories (DRAM, SRAM, EEPROM, Flash, etc.) with a universal memory model likely to reach better performances than the current types of memory: extremely high commutation speeds, high implantation densities and retention time of information of about ten years.

MATHEMATICAL REALITY

MATHEMATICAL REALITY PDF Author: Linfan MAO
Publisher: Infinite Study
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 507

Book Description
A thing is complex, and hybrid with other things sometimes. Then, what is the reality of a thing? The reality of a thing is its state of existed, exists, or will exist in the world, independent on the understanding of human beings, which implies that the reality holds on by human beings maybe local or gradual, not the reality of a thing. Hence, to hold on the reality of things is the main objective of science in the history of human development.
