Not illustrated. 1877 edition. Excerpt: ...from Utah, received $91.00. The Grand Lodge appropriated $3,000 to be divided among the six Relief Boards in the State. From this the Board in San Francisco receives $2,000. The Grand Lodge of Manitoba was recognized and welcomed in the family of Grand Lodges. Three charters were granted. Perhaps no California statesman is better known to the Gentile residents in Utah, than Bro. A. A. Sargent, and it was him the Grand Master had appointed todeliver the annual oration, but owing to his Senatorial duties he was compelled toresign. The Rev. Bro. Dr. Bonte, of Sacramento, filled the place on short notice, and delivered an oration; a better one we have not often read. Bro. Sargent was present and apologized for his inability to perform the duty assigned him by the Grand Master. The Rev. Bro. William H. Hill, "in obedience to the command of the Grand Master," wielded again the pen of Chairman of the Committee on Correspondence, and submitted a review of the Proceedings of fifty-two Grand Lodges--Utah for 1875, among them, receives fraternal mention. The Grand Master of Delaware, having decided that no other societies could be present at, and participate in, a Masonic funeral, Bro. Hill remarks, and we agree: "We have had our say on this perplexing and disturbing topic in previous reports. We always have regretted that such a question should arise to be discussed and decided. We stilt believe that a few grains of common sense would easily dispose of all actual cases. Courtesy can be extended, and, as we believe, in many cases should be extended to other organizations, and yet no right of Masonry be surrendered or even waived.
