Prokhorov and Contemporary Probability Theory

Prokhorov and Contemporary Probability Theory PDF Author: Albert N. Shiryaev
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642335497
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 468

Book Description
The role of Yuri Vasilyevich Prokhorov as a prominent mathematician and leading expert in the theory of probability is well known. Even early in his career he obtained substantial results on the validity of the strong law of large numbers and on the estimates (bounds) of the rates of convergence, some of which are the best possible. His findings on limit theorems in metric spaces and particularly functional limit theorems are of exceptional importance. Y.V. Prokhorov developed an original approach to the proof of functional limit theorems, based on the weak convergence of finite dimensional distributions and the condition of tightness of probability measures. The present volume commemorates the 80th birthday of Yuri Vasilyevich Prokhorov. It includes scientific contributions written by his colleagues, friends and pupils, who would like to express their deep respect and sincerest admiration for him and his scientific work.

Joint Statistical Papers of Akahira and Takeuchi

Joint Statistical Papers of Akahira and Takeuchi PDF Author: Masafumi Akahira
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812791221
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 615

Book Description
Masafumi Akahira and Kei Takeuchi have collaborated in research on mathematical statistics for nearly thirty years and have published many articles and papers. This volume is a collection of their papers, some published in well-known and others in lesser-known journals. The papers cover various fields, but the main subject is the theory of estimation -- asymptotic, non-regular, sequential, etc. All the papers are theoretical in nature, but have implications for applied problems.

Developments in Statistics

Developments in Statistics PDF Author: Paruchuri R. Krishnaiah
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 1483264203
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
Development in Statistics, Volume 3 is a collection of papers that deals with asymptotic expansions in parametric statistical theory, orthogonal models for contingency tables, statistical concepts in economic analysis, and an exposition of path analysis. One paper presents an inference model based on a sample of independent identically distributed observations to arrive at a general statistical theory founded on asymptotic methods. Another paper discusses the applicability of statistical concepts to economics and related areas, with emphasis on not-so-obvious applications (known as utility and expected loss). The paper explains information theory concepts for the measurement of income inequality, intergenerational occupational mobility, as well as to first- and second-order moments of univariate and bivariate distributions (such as measurements applied to the cost of living and of real income). One paper notes that the starting point in path analysis is a linear predictor (in the least-squares sense) for one random variable in terms of a number of others. The paper adds that the work of Koopmans and Hood (1953) on econometrics is part of the starting point. Statisticians, economists, mathematicians, students, and professors of calculus or advanced mathematics will surely appreciate the collection.

Perturbed Semi-Markov Type Processes II

Perturbed Semi-Markov Type Processes II PDF Author: Dmitrii Silvestrov
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030923991
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 420

Book Description
This book is the second volume of a two-volume monograph devoted to the study of limit and ergodic theorems for regularly and singularly perturbed Markov chains, semi-Markov processes, and multi-alternating regenerative processes with semi-Markov modulation. The second volume presents a complete classification of ergodic theorems for alternating regenerative processes, including more than twenty-five such theorems. The text addresses new asymptotic recurrent algorithms of phase space reduction for multi-alternating regenerative processes modulating by regularly and singularly perturbed finite semi-Markov processes. It also features a new study of super-long, long, and short time ergodic theorems for these processes. The book also contains a comprehensive bibliography of major works in the field. It provides an effective reference for both graduate students as well as theoretical and applied researchers studying stochastic processes and their applications.

Masatoshi Fukushima

Masatoshi Fukushima PDF Author: Masatoshi Fukushima
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110215241
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 560

Book Description
Masatoshi Fukushima is one of the most influential probabilists of our times. His fundamental work on Dirichlet forms and Markov processes made Hilbert space methods a tool in stochastic analysis and by this he opened the way to several new developments. His impact on a new generation of probabilists can hardly be overstated. These Selecta collect 25 of Fukushima's seminal articles published between 1967 and 2007.

Introduction to the Theory of (Non-Symmetric) Dirichlet Forms

Introduction to the Theory of (Non-Symmetric) Dirichlet Forms PDF Author: Zhi-Ming Ma
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642777392
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 215

Book Description
The purpose of this book is to give a streamlined introduction to the theory of (not necessarily symmetric) Dirichlet forms on general state spaces. It includes both the analytic and the probabilistic part of the theory up to and including the construction of an associated Markov process. It is based on recent joint work of S. Albeverio and the two authors and on a one-year-course on Dirichlet forms taught by the second named author at the University of Bonn in 1990/9l. It addresses both researchers and graduate students who require a quick but complete introduction to the theory. Prerequisites are a basic course in probabil ity theory (including elementary martingale theory up to the optional sampling theorem) and a sound knowledge of measure theory (as, for example, to be found in Part I of H. Bauer [B 78]). Furthermore, an elementary course on lin ear operators on Banach and Hilbert spaces (but without spectral theory) and a course on Markov processes would be helpful though most of the material needed is included here.
