Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 160

Book Description
Intrusion Detection In Distributed Systems: An Abstraction-Based Approach presents research contributions in three areas with respect to intrusion detection in distributed systems. The first contribution is an abstraction-based approach to addressing heterogeneity and autonomy of distributed environments. The second contribution is a formal framework for modeling requests among cooperative IDSs and its application to Common Intrusion Detection Framework (CIDF). The third contribution is a novel approach to coordinating different IDSs for distributed event correlation.

Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery with Evolutionary Algorithms

Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery with Evolutionary Algorithms PDF Author: Alex A. Freitas
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662049236
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
This book integrates two areas of computer science, namely data mining and evolutionary algorithms. Both these areas have become increasingly popular in the last few years, and their integration is currently an active research area. In general, data mining consists of extracting knowledge from data. The motivation for applying evolutionary algorithms to data mining is that evolutionary algorithms are robust search methods which perform a global search in the space of candidate solutions. This book emphasizes the importance of discovering comprehensible, interesting knowledge, which is potentially useful for intelligent decision making. The text explains both basic concepts and advanced topics

Agents and Ambient Intelligence

Agents and Ambient Intelligence PDF Author: Tibor Bosse
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1614990492
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 340

Book Description
The concept of an intelligent agent - a computational system capable of performing certain tasks autonomously - derived from the growing potential of digital computers in the mid 20th century and had been widely adopted by the early 1990s. Partly in parallel with this concept, the perspective of ambient intelligence (AmI) emerged in the late 1990s. Agent technology and AmI have many similarities, and the main purpose of this book is to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art of the scientific area that integrates these two. The book addresses a wide variety of topics related to agents and AmI, including theoretical, practical, design, implementation, ethical and philosophical issues. The 12 chapters are arranged in four sections. The first consists of three chapters discussing ethical and philosophical issues; the second part explores various approaches that can be used to develop agent-based AmI Systems; the third part contains three chapters that share the goal to endow AmI systems with useful properties like intelligence and adaptivity and the last section presents concrete applications of agent-based AmI systems. This book provides an insight into recent achievements and future challenges at the intersection of agent technology and ambient intelligence and will assist the development of more intelligent, flexible, effective and user-friendly systems as well as posing critical questions about the future of the role of agents within the AmI perspective.

AI*IA 2005: Advances in Artificial Intelligence

AI*IA 2005: Advances in Artificial Intelligence PDF Author: Sara Manzoni
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3540317333
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 627

Book Description
This volume collects the papers selected for presentation at the IX Congress of the Italian Association for Arti?cial Intelligence (AI*IA), held in Milan at the University of Milano–Bicocca (September 21–23, 2005). On the one hand this congress continues the tradition of AI*IA in organizing its biannual s- enti?c meeting from 1989; on the other hand, this edition is a landmark in the involvement of the international community of arti?cial intelligence (AI), directly involving a broad number of experts from several countries in the P- gramCommittee. Moreover, the peculiar nature of scienti?c researchin arti?cial intelligence (which is intrinsically international) and several consolidated int- national collaborations in projects and mobility programs allowed the collection and selection of papers from many di?erent countries, all around the world, enlarging the visibility of the Italian contribution within this research ?eld. Arti?cial intelligence is today a growing complex set of conceptual, theor- ical, methodological, and technological frameworks, o?ering innovative com- tational solutions in the design and development of computer-based systems. Within this perspective, researchers working in this area must tackle a broad range of knowledge about methods, results, and solutions coming from di?erent classical areas of this discipline. The congress was designed as a forum allowing researchers to present and discuss specialized results as general contributions to AI growth.

Digital Documents: Systems and Principles

Digital Documents: Systems and Principles PDF Author: Peter King
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 354039916X
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 254

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of two recent conferences in the ?eld of electronic publishing and digital documents: – DDEP 2000, the 8th International Conference on Digital Documents and Electronic Publishing, the successor conference to the EP conference series; and – PODDP 2000, the 5th International Workshop on the Principles of Digital Document Processing. Both conferences were held at the Technische Universit ̈ at Munc ̈ hen, Munich, Germany in September 2000. DDEP 2000 was the eighth in a biennial series of international conferences organized to promote the exchange of novel ideas concerning the computer p- duction, manipulation and dissemination of documents. This conference series has attempted to re?ect the evolving nature and usage of documents by treating digital documents and electronic publishing as a broad topic covering many - pects. These aspects have included document models, document representation and document dissemination, dynamic and hyper-documents, document ana- sis and management, and wide-ranging applications. The papers presented at DDEP 2000 and in this volume re?ect this broad view, and cover such diverse topicsashypermediastructureanddesign, multimediaauthoringtechniquesand systems, document structure inference, typography, document management and adaptation, document collections and Petri nets. All papers were refereed by an international program committee.
