Strong And Electroweak Matter 2004 - Proceedings Of The Sewm2004 Meeting

Strong And Electroweak Matter 2004 - Proceedings Of The Sewm2004 Meeting PDF Author: Kari J Eskola
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814481122
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 459

Book Description
This volume presents an authoritative review of the physics of strongly and electroweakly interacting elementary particle matter in extreme conditions that prevailed in the very early Universe, and which are being recreated in high energy physics laboratories today. Exciting, high-quality experimental results from RHIC collider at Brookhaven, collected since summer 2000, suggest that strongly interacting quark-gluon plasma has indeed been produced. The study of these phenomena will form an important part of theoretical particle and nuclear physics for years to come.Based on the discussions of more than a hundred experts at the Strong and Electroweak Matter 2004 Meeting, this volume contains an up-to-date overview of present ideas on QCD matter: quark-gluon plasma in heavy ion collisions, phase structure, kinetics, thermalization and transport properties. Also discussed are topics related to the cosmology of the early Universe, dark matter, inflation and creation of particle-antiparticle asymmetries. Both analytic and numerical lattice Monte Carlo methods are emphasized.

Proceedings of the VIIth GSCP International Conference. Speech and Corpora

Proceedings of the VIIth GSCP International Conference. Speech and Corpora PDF Author: Massimo Pettorino
Publisher: Firenze University Press
ISBN: 8866553514
Category : Corpora
Languages : en
Pages : 488

Book Description
The 7th International Conference of the Gruppo di Studi sulla Comunicazione Parlata, dedicated to the memory of Claire Blanche-Benveniste, chose as its main theme Speech and Corpora. The wide international origin of the 235 authors from 21 countries and 95 institutions led to papers on many different languages. The 89 papers of this volume reflect the themes of the conference: spoken corpora compilation and annotation, with the technological connected fields; the relation between prosody and pragmatics; speech pathologies; and different papers on phonetics, speech and linguistic analysis, pragmatics and sociolinguistics. Many papers are also dedicated to speech and second language studies. The online publication with FUP allows direct access to sound and video linked to papers (when downloaded).

Electromagnetic Materials - Proceedings Of The Symposium R

Electromagnetic Materials - Proceedings Of The Symposium R PDF Author: Hock Lim
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814479810
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 293

Book Description
This volume comprises the main ideas and the latest results in the study of electromagnetic materials, as presented at the Symposium on Electromagnetic Materials, ICMAT 2005.The high quality contributions reflect the principle aims of the conference: to provide an international forum for scientists and engineers to report their most recent research findings, to exchange ideas and information, and to nuture and establish research ties. Electromagnetic materials have both civilian and defence applications, such as novel antenna designs, protection against high power transients in densely packed printed circuits, and special frequency response or polarization response to meet component or system specifications. An in-depth understanding of the responses of materials to electromagnetic waves may even enable us to design and fabricate materials with properties not found in nature.

Primate Hearing and Communication

Primate Hearing and Communication PDF Author: Rolf M. Quam
Publisher: Humana Press
ISBN: 3319594788
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 240

Book Description
Presents a comprehensive review of nonhuman primate audition and vocal communication. These are obviously intimately related topics, but are often addressed separately. The hearing abilities of primates have been tested experimentally in a large number of species across the primate order, and these studies have revealed both consistent patterns as well as interesting variation within and between taxonomic groups. Recent studies have shed light on how variation in anatomical structures along the auditory pathway relates to variation in auditory sensitivity. At the same time, ongoing studies of vocal communication in wild primate populations continue to reveal new insights into the social and environmental contexts of many primate calls, and the range of known primate vocalizations has increased dramatically with the development of more sophisticated and accessible auditory equipment and software that enables the recording and analysis of higher-fidelity and broader-band recordings, including documenting very high frequency (i.e. ultrasound) vocalizations. Historically the relative importance of primate calls has been evaluated qualitatively by the perception of the researcher, but new methods and approaches now enable a greater appreciation for how signals are used and perceived by the primates in question. The integration of anatomical and behavioral data on acoustic communication and the environmental correlates thereof has significant potential for reconstructing behavior in the fossil record. This confluence of factors and accumulating evidence for the sophistication and complexity in both the signal and its interpretation indicate that a book synthesizing this information across primates is warranted and represents an important contribution to the literature.
