Book Description
Gaining an understanding of the recreation and parks profession is crucial to success in the field and to effective leadership within the field. Recreation and Parks: The Profession is a one-of-a-kind resource that delineates the components that make this complex field a profession. Written by well-known recreation authority Betty van der Smissen, this book -defines the marks of the recreation and parks profession and identifies the steps involved in becoming a professional in the field; -profiles 62 professional organizations within the profession; -provides a Web site that features a time line of the development of areas and organizations of the profession and the most up-to-date Web addresses for organizations detailed in the text; -outlines a comparative history of 15 categories of the recreation and parks field in the United States and Canada; and -presents a classic-to-contemporary bibliography of resources that showcases an inclusive body of knowledge on the profession. Part I describes recreation and parks as a profession and provides students with steps to lay a solid foundation to become a professional. Part II grounds readers with a comparative historical overview of the recreation and parks field from the 1500s to the present day. The author divides the field into 15 categories and offers suggestions on how to use the time line. Part III profiles 62 professional organizations. Each profile includes the organization's mission, goals, structure, history, publications, services, and professional credentialing information. In addition, it lists the organization's Web sites, contact information, and other vital information that students use in completing course work, in applying for internships, and in researching various aspects of the profession. Part IV contains a bibliography of selected resources on recreation and parks, from classic to the present. Recreation and Parks: The Profession includes a Web site that not only provides links to other current Web sites for the organizations profiled, but it also is linked to a color-coded version of the time line. The time line is ready to download, print, and use in the classroom or office. This version of the time line provides the most effective way to obtain an overall picture of the historical comparison of the categories in the recreation and parks profession. Recreation and Parks: The Profession is a unique resource for students, professors, and professionals in recreation and parks. The text brings together the important aspects of the field as a profession.

Book Description
In this paper the authors propose a visionary but actionable global strategy for revitalizing, adapting, and defending the rules- based international system. The strategy sets forth three key pillars: First, the authors call for a renewed effort to rally democratic states—not just those of the transatlantic alliance, but also democracies across Asia, Africa, and Latin America—to work together to defend and advance the common values that unite them. At the same time, the authors argue that these states must engage the autocratic great powers, including China and Russia, to seek their support for those elements of the rules-based system on which their interests and those of the democratic states align. Second, the international system must be significantly adapted and redesigned to address existing shortcomings and to reflect new realities. To this end, the authors propose several new institutions designed for the needs and challenges of today’s world. Finally, this revitalized and adapted system must be defended. The authors argue for a more systematic approach to monitoring and incentivizing compliance with core rules, to defending democracy against autocratic backsliding and interference, and to confronting the dangers posed by revisionist powers, nuclear proliferation, terrorism, disruptive technology, and other global threats.

From Creation to Re-Creation

Pages : 286
Book Description
Within the last forty years, scientific discoveries and knowledge about our universe contain unprecedented theological implications. They imply that the creator exists, more so than ever before. These discoveries have developed a worldview that challenges both theologians and scientists to engage in a mutually fruitful dialogue. From Creation to Re-Creation uniquely presents God's accomplishments as author Daniel Lazich transports himself to a time when authors wrote creation narratives to depict the contrast between the ancient epics and biblical narrative. It forcefully asserts that the creation of this world and humankind was accomplished by the Creator, who loves humanity selflessly. This assertion is backed by the most advanced study and research concerning our universe's nature. Lazich writes that the final observer in quantum cosmology and God in the Bible are the same. From Creation to Re-Creation employs unprecedented theological implications to assert that the creator's existence is necessary for the universe and humankind in it to exist.

Book Description
Hopes for a new peaceful international order after the end of the Cold War have been dashed by sobering realities: Great powers are once again competing for honor and influence. The world remains “unipolar,” but international competition among the United States, Russia, China, Europe, Japan, India, and Iran raise new threats of regional conflict, and a new contest between western liberalism and the great eastern autocracies of Russia and China has reinjected ideology into geopolitics. For the past few years, the liberal world has been internally divided and distracted by issues both profound and petty. Now, in The Return of History and the End of Dreams, Robert Kagan masterfully poses the most important questions facing the liberal democratic countries, challenging them to choose whether they want to shape history or let others shape it for them.
