Seismic Isolation, Energy Dissipation and Active Vibration Control of Structures

Seismic Isolation, Energy Dissipation and Active Vibration Control of Structures PDF Author: Gian Paolo Cimellaro
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3031211871
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 1074

Book Description
This volume gathers the proceedings of the 17th World Conference on Seismic Isolation (17WCSI), held in Turin, Italy on September 11-15, 2022. Endorsed by ASSISi Association (Anti-Seismic Systems International Society), the conference discussed state-of-the-art information as well as emerging concepts and innovative applications related to seismic isolation, energy dissipation and active vibration control of structures, resilience and sustainability. The volume covers highly diverse topics, including earthquake-resistant construction, protection from natural and man-made impacts, safety of structures, vulnerability, international standards on structures with seismic isolation, seismic isolation in existing structures and cultural heritage, seismic isolation in high rise buildings, seismic protection of non-structural elements, equipment and statues. The contributions, which are published after a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.

Minimax Design of Parallel Multi-mass Dynamic Vibration Absorbers

Minimax Design of Parallel Multi-mass Dynamic Vibration Absorbers PDF Author: Kerk Cheng Kee

Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 68

Book Description
This thesis discusses the design of multi-mass dynamic vibration absorbers in parallel configuration subject to uncertainties in the forcing frequency. A minimax parameter optimization approach is used to determine the optimum absorber mass parameters for different numbers of vibration absorbers without changing the total vibration absorber mass (constant mass ratio). Both main mass excitation and base excitation systems are examined. The effects of increasing the number of absorber masses are analyzed qualitatively through analysis of the system transfer function as well as quantitatively via numerical simulations. Increasing the number of absorber masses is shown to give improved robustness and overall vibration reduction in the main mass at the cost of increased motion of the absorber masses.

Book Description
Structural irregularities are one of the most frequent causes of severe damages in buildings, as evidenced by the numerous earthquakes in recent years. This issue is of particular importance, since real structures are almost all irregular. Furthermore, structural irregularities depend on several factors often very difficult to predict. This book is an essential tool for understanding the problem of structural irregularities and provides the most up-to-date review on this topic, covering the aspects of ground rotations, analysis, design, control and monitoring of irregular structures. It includes 24 contributions from authors of 13 countries, giving a complete and international view of the problem.
