So when the depth of nine hundred feet was reported, there was scarcely an investor, if the truth were known, who would not gladly have sold out at a loss of seventy-five per cent on the outlay. However, little of the scrip had changed hands, some sanguine people assert ing that money would not purchase their shares; for as the prospector possessed five thousand dollars worth of stock, the reward for his dis covery and services, and he still stuck to it.
