Direct sales involve over-the-side sales, where fish are sold directly to foreign vessels without being landed in Canada for processing, and over-the-wharf sales, where fish is bought by foreign vessels after being processed in a registered processing plant. Policy for Canada's Atlantic Fisheries in the 1980's

Policy for Canada's Atlantic Fisheries in the 1980's PDF Author: Canada. Department of Fisheries and Oceans
Publisher: Government of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans, Communications Branch
ISBN:
Category : Fisheries
Languages : en
Pages : 92

Book Description
Since 1976 there have been major changes in the circumstances affecting the fishing industry, particularly in Atlantic Canada. While there remain some underutilized species, and some stocks not yet fully rehabilitated, and also some real potential for enhancement/culture it is nevertheless clear that recent expansions in harvesting and processing capacity are such that the limits to growth are being reached and future development will have to concentrate on competitiveness, efficiency and extracting more value domestically from a limited resource. In light of these changing circumstances, the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans decided in the summer of 1979 that a comprehensive review of fisheries policy should be undertaken to update the policy paper of 1976. As part of this policy review, an Atlantic Fisheries policy review has been carried out to establish an integrated consistent approach to issues affecting Atlantic Fisheries management in the 1980's. The general policy review has focused on the following sets of issues: (a) the consultative and decision-making process (b) resource management (c) primary sector problems (d) productivity and efficiency (e) marketing and (f) intergovernmental considerations and other matters.

Canadian Oceans Policy

Canadian Oceans Policy PDF Author: Don M. McRae
Publisher: UBC Press
ISBN: 0774843055
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 284

Book Description
This book deals with Canada's oceans management policies since the conclusion of the 1982 Convention of the Law of the Sea. That Convention set out a jurisdictional framework for the management of the world's oceans, but it did not provide states with precise guidance on all the issues that can arise. As a state with one of the world's longest coastlines, Canada was one of the principal beneficiaries under the 1982 Convention regime. A study of Canadian policy is particularly significant, as Canadian oceans management places in relief many of the difficult questions yet to be resolved.
