Dandyism in the Age of Revolution

Dandyism in the Age of Revolution PDF Author: Elizabeth Amann
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022618725X
Category : Design
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
In Dandyism in the Age of Revolution, Elizabeth Amann shows that in France, England, and Spain, daring dress became a way of taking a stance toward the social and political upheaval of the period. France is the centerpiece of the story, not just because of the significance of the Revolution but also because of the speed with which both its politics and fashions shifted. Dandyism in France represented an attempt to recover a political center after the extremism of the Terror, while in England and Spain it offered a way to reflect upon the turmoil across the Channel and Pyrenees. From the Hair Powder Act, which required users of the product implications of the feather in Yankee Doodle's hat, Amann aims to revise our understanding of the origins of modern dandyism and to recover the political context from which it emerged. -- from back cover.

The Best of Ogden Nash

The Best of Ogden Nash PDF Author: Ogden Nash
Publisher: Ivan R. Dee Publisher
ISBN: 9781566637039
Category : Humor
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
More of Ogden Nash's poems have come to light, both in the voluminous Nash collection at the University of Texas at Austin, and in family letters and papers. So his daughters have once again produced The Best of Ogden Nash, the definitive Nash anthology. Some of these new poems reveal a darker side of the poet; others are full of fun. But all display the talent of the man whose verse entranced America--and a good part of the world--from the time of the Great Depression until his death in 1971. While earlier collections were organized chronologically, The Best is arranged by subject matter: the subjects of Nash's poems cannot always be identified by his titles, so fans of a particular poem will not have to search for it in vain.

How Not to Kill Yourself

How Not to Kill Yourself PDF Author: Set Sytes
Publisher: Microcosm Publishing
ISBN: 1621067025
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages :

Book Description
A highly imaginative and relatable guide for anyone who needs the reassurance that suicide is NEVER worth it. Are you inclined to escape the crumminess of everyday life into fantasy worlds? Are you smart and imaginative in a way that isn't really suited to your surroundings? Are you definitely misunderstood, likely angry, and almost certainly depressed? Set Sytes, hailing from the UK, would prefer you stay alive and sort things out rather than the alternative, thanks. He figures there are better opportunities for you out there and lays it all out in a way that's compelling, funny, sharp, and useful. This zine turned book (please don't call it a self-help guide, asks the author) is ultimately about how to be a person in the world. It can be done non-miserably, we promise.
