Physico-Mechanical Properties and Treatment Technology of Hazardous Geomaterials, volume II

Physico-Mechanical Properties and Treatment Technology of Hazardous Geomaterials, volume II PDF Author: Xianze Cui
Publisher: Frontiers Media SA
ISBN: 2832541593
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 206

Book Description
This Research Topic is Volume II of a series. The previous volume can be found here: Physico-Mechanical Properties and Treatment Technology of Hazardous Geomaterials New materials and technologies are emerging in every branch of geotechnical engineerings, such as high-speed railway subgrade, soil improvement and remediation, underground space structure, ground energy storage, energy pile, energy geostructure, energy tunnel, tunnel waterproof engineering, and marine engineering. In addition to the common infrastructure construction materials, it also includes the treatment of hazardous geomaterials, resource utilization of industrial wastes, geopolymer materials, contaminated soils related to geoenvironmental engineering as well as other newly developed materials. In recent years, the advancement of new materials has promoted the development of geotechnical engineering and its close intersection with other disciplines. Scholars have done fruitful work, but the understanding of many new materials is not very clear. Moreover, the external environment (e.g., heat, water, external force) borne by various materials is becoming more and more complex. The newly developed geotechnical materials involve the coupling actions of multiple fields such as physics, mechanics, chemistry and even biology. Some new technologies and specifications are still developing. For this purpose, it is necessary to investigate the mineral composition and micro-structures, physico-mechanical properties, deformation and strength evolution process, and constitutive characteristics of various geotechnical materials. The research methods include theoretical description, numerical simulation, laboratory experiments and field tests. The Research Topic aims to bring together Original Research and Review articles on the recent developments in natural geotechnical material improvement, hazardous geomaterials, synthetic materials, geopolymer, energy geotechnical materials and contaminated soil treatment.

Polyurethane Grouted Gravel Type Geomaterials--A Model Study on Relations Between Material Structure and Physical-Mechanical Properties

Polyurethane Grouted Gravel Type Geomaterials--A Model Study on Relations Between Material Structure and Physical-Mechanical Properties PDF Author: Jiri Scucka
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Biomedical engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 15

Book Description
New specific composite materials are formed in the field of grouting technologies by pressure grouting of polyurethane resins into soils, disturbed rocks, or into damaged building structures. The structural and textural variability of these geomaterial-polymer composites complicates significantly the determination of their physical and mechanical properties. Determination of mechanical parameters is particularly difficult because it is often impossible to prepare standard test specimens for laboratory loading tests from the samples taken after grouting in situ. Analysis of structures and textures of composites originating from geotechnical practice represents a possible indirect way to evaluate their physical and mechanical properties. The structure of a composite material can be compared with structures of similar composites whose physical and mechanical properties are already known. In this paper, results of a model study are presented. The aim of this study is to define basic relations between structural parameters and physical-mechanical properties of the model composites with a polyurethane matrix and to evaluate whether and to what extent the knowledge of these relations can be used for the prediction of properties of composites in practice.

Sustainable Use of Traditional Geomaterials in Construction Practice

Sustainable Use of Traditional Geomaterials in Construction Practice PDF Author:
Publisher: Geological Society of London
ISBN: 1862397252
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 311

Book Description
Geomaterials derived from the Earth’s crust and used in construction after appropriate processing are among the earliest raw materials exploited, processed and used by humans. Their numerous functional properties include accessibility, workability and serviceability, and these are explored within this volume. In modern society, sustainable use of raw materials, specifically those exploited in large volumes such as geomaterials for construction, raises questions of reducing extraction of primary resources and thus minimizing impacts on natural systems, and also employment of materials and technologies to lower emissions of deleterious substances into the atmosphere. This will be possible only if we fully understand the properties, processing and mode of use of traditional geomaterials. Although most of the papers within this volume were written by geologists, the contributions will also be of interest to those working in cultural heritage, monument conservation, civil engineering and architecture.
