Phosphate Coatings Suitable for Personal Protective Equipment

Phosphate Coatings Suitable for Personal Protective Equipment PDF Author: Diana Petronela BURDUHOS-NERGIS
Publisher: Materials Research Forum LLC
ISBN: 1644901110
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 188

Book Description
Phosphate coatings can improve the corrosion resistance of carbon steel equipment such as carabiners. The specific porosity of the phosphate layer allows the deposition of an elastomer-based paint for absorbing mechanical shocks. The book is relevant for fundamental and applied research in the field of protective phosphate layers and their industrial applications. It also describes how to design and develop phosphating solutions that differ in the type and concentration of metal ions dissolved in phosphoric acid. Keywords: Safety Rings, Carabiners, Phosphate Coatings, Aluminum Alloys, Carbon Steels, Stainless Steels, Structural Characterization, Mechanical Characterization, Corrosion Resistance, Friction Coefficient, Temperature Shock, Mechanical Impact, Design of Carabiners, Coating Technology.

Structures Under Shock and Impact XV

Structures Under Shock and Impact XV PDF Author: S. Syngellakis
Publisher: WIT Press
ISBN: 1784662658
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 299

Book Description
Discussing the increasing need to protect civilian infrastructure and industrial facilities against unintentional loads arising from accidental impact and explosion events as well as terrorist attack, this book contains papers presented at the 15th International Conference on Structures under Shock and Impact. This successful conference series has been regularly held since it began in 1989 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While advances have been made over this period many challenges remain, such as to develop more effective and efficient blast and impact mitigation approaches than currently exist. The primary focus remains the survivability of physical facilities and the protection of people, as well as reducing economic losses and impact on the environment, with emphasis on innovative protective technologies to support the needs of an economically growing, modern society. The application of this technology ranges from the safe transportation of people in several modes and the transportation of dangerous or combustible materials to defences against natural hazard threats such as flood, wind, storm, tsunami and earthquake. Large scale testing is prohibitive and small scale laboratory testing results in scaling uncertainties. Continuing research is therefore essential to improve knowledge on how these structures behave under a variety of load actions, some of which interact making it even more complex and difficult to define. Consequently, more use of advanced numerical simulations for load and structural response calculations is common practice in industry and research. Such calculations can directly be used in design and risk assessment calculations, but also be applied as input to more simplified design tools and design codes. Whether numerical or analytical modelling techniques are employed, experimental validation is vital for there to be acceptance of the approach to be used. The published research aims for the exchange of ideas and results to promote a better understanding of the critical issues relating to the testing behaviour, modelling and analyses of protective structures against blast and impact loading.

Falls from Height

Falls from Height PDF Author: Loui McCurley
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118094808
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 374

Book Description
Enables workplace responders to prepare for and respond to falls from height How do you rescue someone suspended in midair or trapped above ground? Author Loui McCurley, an expert in technical rope rescue with more than twenty-five years of experience, has the answers. Following her tested and proven advice, readers will learn how to prepare for and safely rescue "at-height" workers and others from "falls from height." The book fully bridges the gap between planning and execution, steering readers toward simple workplace-specific solutions. Moreover, it explains how to develop and implement a comprehensive protection program, enabling all organizations and their employees to fully prepare themselves to respond to a fall from height. Falls from Height is divided into four parts: Part I: Regulatory Considerations, Rescue Plans, and Developing a Rescue Capability underscores the need for a rescue program, explaining how to fully leverage available resources to optimize the program. Part II: Equipment, Systems, and Skills details the skills that all rescuers should have and the equipment they need to perform a rescue at height. Part III: Putting It All Together discusses principles of rigging, single-rescuer methods, and group-rescuer methods. Part IV: Successful Workplace Planning examines the unique challenges of different workplace environments and then offers a step-by-step guide for implementing the book's recommendations. Based on the premise that a fallen worker must be rescued quickly and efficiently, without putting others in harm's way, Falls from Height is a must for all workplace responders, enabling them to prepare for and respond to fall victims like experienced rescuers.
