Heart Failure

Heart Failure PDF Author: Howard Eisen
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1447142195
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 843

Book Description
This comprehensively covers everything from pathophysiology to the evaluation of patients presenting with heart failure to medical management, device therapy, heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, and include relevant cardiac imaging studies such as echocardiograms and magnetic resonance imaging studies which could be seen in their entirety as well as pathology slides, hemodynamic tracings and videos of cardiac surgery such as heart transplants and ventricular assist device implantation. Finally, the book would have videos of patients with heart failure, heart transplants or ventricular assist devices, describing their clinical presentation and experiences. It is structured so that it can be used as a guide by physicians studying for the general Cardiology or Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantations Boards.

Pathophysiology of Heart Disease

Pathophysiology of Heart Disease PDF Author: Naranjan S. Dhalla
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461320518
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 375

Book Description
It is indeed ironical that in the absence of a complete knowledge of Pathophysiology, clinical cardiologists are left with no choice but to do the best they can to help the patient with the armamentarium of drugs at their disposal. But nothing could be further from truth than to treat the diagnosed end point of a disease process without a full understanding of its patho physiology. This point was eloquently made by Dr. Arnold Katz in his Presidential Address (Chapter 1) at the 8th Annual Meeting of the American Section of the International Society for Heart Research held in Winnipeg, Canada, July 8-11, 1986. This volume represents a part of the scientific proceedings of this Meeting. From a reading of this treatise it will become evident that discoveries of newer scientific facts as well as a better understanding of pathophysiology are continuously influencing/ improving our therapeutic approaches in modern medicine. In this book, latest biochemical, physiological and pharmacological findings on different experimental models such as Myocaridal hypertrophy, Hypertension and heart failure, Diabetes, Cardio myopathies and Cardiac function in shock are described by internationally recognised experts. Hopefully information presented here will provide another building block to the edifice of Science of Cardiology which we all are trying to create. Acknowledgements We are grateful to the following Agencies and Foundations for their generous financial support of the Symposium, which formed the basis of this book. A. Major Contributors: 1. Heart Failure

Heart Failure PDF Author: Arnold M. Katz
Publisher: Lippincott Williams & Wilkins
ISBN: 146980185X
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 737

Book Description
This Second Edition of Dr. Katz's highly acclaimed text has been thoroughly revised to incorporate the latest advances in the study and treatment of heart failure. The book explains the pathophysiology, molecular mechanisms, clinical manifestations, and therapy of heart failure in an integrated, reader-friendly manner that is accessible to both clinicians and basic scientists. More than 100 illustrations, most created for this book by the authors, complement the text. This edition has been completely reorganized. Chapters describe the hemodynamic basis for the clinical manifestations of heart failure; the neurohumoral responses in heart failure and key signaling pathways that mediate functional responses; the proliferative responses in failing hearts; the cellular and molecular abnormalities in the failing heart; the rationale for various therapeutic approaches; and the management of specific groups of patients. The chapters on therapy have been written by a noted clinician, Marvin A. Konstam.

Book Description
Research at the molecular and the cellular level has greatly enhanced our understanding of the pathogenesis and management of heart disease. Valuable contributions, towards this end, have been made by scientists from different dis ciplines including biochemistry, physiology, pathology, molecular biology and biophysics. We felt that it would be of interest and value to bring together ex perts from diverse specialities to present their work and to discuss the common problems encountered in their endeavours. In accordance, a symposium was organised in February 1988 at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh. It was held during the annual meeting of the Indian section of the International Society for Heart Research. This book is a compila tion of some of the papers presented at the symposium. The symposium was sponsored by the Council on Cardiac Metabolism of the International Society and Federation of Cardiology. A number of Indian or ganisations gave generous financial help. These included the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Indian Council of Medical Research, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and Department of Science and Technology. Desktop publishing was used to prepare this volume. In doing so we came to appreciate the remarkable qualities, skills and help rendered by Professor Dharam Vir. For typing the manuscripts and for other secretarial assistance we gratefully acknowledge the help of Ravinder and Sawtantar.
