Nematology

Nematology PDF Author: Mohammad Manjur Shah
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9535134159
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 194

Book Description
Nematology being an established discipline covers a wide range of area ranging from basic aspect to the advanced and applied aspects involving recent advances in molecular techniques. This book discusses the following topics: the role of nematodes in our life (in agriculture, ecosystem functioning, experimental biology, ecological studies, pest management programs, or biocontrol), identification of GRSPs in nematode genomes, novel way for the diagnosis of pathogenic nematodes involving various recent molecular techniques, other methodologies for successful control of termites, evolution of plant-parasitic nematodes, viability of adult filarial nematode parasites, the impact of plant-parasitic nematodes on crops, and harnessing useful rhizosphere microorganisms for nematode control. The book also encompasses on classical study, molecular study, bioinformatics in nematology, biodiversity analysis, and culturing of nematodes in laboratory condition.

Diseases Of Nematodes

Book Description
The present work deals with the diseases of nematodes. Although the term disease implies a pathological condition brought about by an infectious agent, a broader concept is used here.

The Cyst Nematodes

The Cyst Nematodes PDF Author: S.B. Sharma

Book Description
When Franklin published her book on cyst nematodes in 1951, the cyst nematodes were already known as serious pests of brassicas, cereals, potatoes and sugar beets. However, at that time this group of nematode, with about 12 species, was considered tobe largely temperate in distribu tion. Now a total of 105 species (including those that are considered as synonyms or species inquirende by some or all) within six genera of cyst nematodes have been described from temperate, tropical, and subtropical regions and at least five species are important constraints to crop produc tion in tropical agriculture. The previous impression of localization of cyst nematodes in the temperate region was seemingly an artifact due to a greater concentration of nematologists in the temperate regions. Based on my own experience of working in several Asian and African countries, I believe that many more undescribed species are present in the tropical countries of Asia and Africa, and probably in other tropical regions. Most growers, extension workers, and research managers in these regions are still not aware of the possible harm of presence of these nematodes in their agricultural soils. The cyst nematodes are perhaps smaller than the smallest available computer chip but they are very well programmed to survive and pro pagate despite severe hardships. These nematodes are very selective in their choice of food; about 50% of known species are parasites of plants mainly in the families Poaceae and Fabaceae.

Book Description
This book is a compendium of current information on all aspects of these economically important parasites. It provides comprehensive coverage of their biology, management, morphology and diagnostics, in addition to up-to-date information on molecular aspects of taxonomy, host-parasitic relationships and resistance. Written by a team of international experts, Cyst Nematodes will be invaluable to all researchers, lecturers and students in nematology, parasitology, agriculture and agronomy, industries with an interest in chemical and biological control products for management of plant-parasitic nematodes, and any courses, quarantine and advisory services.

Diagnosing Plant Diseases Caused by Nematodes

Diagnosing Plant Diseases Caused by Nematodes PDF Author: Malcolm C. Shurtleff
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 204

Book Description
Use this new book to simplify diagnosis of nematode problems and identify plant-parasitic nematodes. With its descriptive key and detailed drawings, Diagnosing Plant Diseases Caused by Nematodes assists readers in differentiating plant-parasitic nematodes from free-living (microbivorous) nematodes found commonly in the soil around plant roots and within symptomatic plant tissue. This book features an extensive glossary of nematological and related terms, an appendix covering the five genera of nematodes and their 46 species presently implicated in transmitting plant viruses, and an index which makes it possible to locate drawings of one or more representatives of a particular genus and a description of the general characteristics of the genus. Agronomy, forestry, and horticulture specialists will find this reference book helpful for improving their diagnostic skills in the field, laboratories, and plant clinics.
