Kenya went to the polls on December 27, 2007. The incumbent president was declared the winner. The opposition protested the results. They took to the streets bringing all businesses to a standstill. Violence broke out in major Towns in Kenya. In western Kenya where the opposition enjoyed much support, there was looting and setting on fire property of their rivals. The opposition supporters came out armed with arrows, bows and machetes and started killing and torching houses belonging to other tribes they have been living with for over forty years and asking them to leave. The politicians were unable to sit down and sort out the chaos. African Union intervened and they agreed to sit down under the chairmanship of Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of United Nations. Kofi spent a whole month in Kenya and he finally succeeded to make the two groups to agree to work together in a government of national unit. This cooled the political temperature in the country. The conflict had displaced people from their homes, families have been separated, and people have been chased away from their workplace. The conflict has had an effect in the social integration in Kenya. With the leaders agreeing to share the government, the Kenyan population is promised of peace and stability. The credit goes to Kofi Annan who worked hard to broker the agreement. The people of Kenya have agreed to honour Kofi by naming all new-born baby boys after him. The wildlife wardens have already named a baby rhino after him.

The Inequality of COVID-19: Immediate Health Communication, Governance and Response in Four Indigenous Regions explores the use of information, communication technologies (ICTs) and longer-term guidelines, directives and general policy initiatives. The cases document implications of the failure of various governments to establish robust policies to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in a sample of advanced and low-income countries. Because the global institutions charged with managing the COVID-19 crisis did not work in harmony, the results have been devastating. The four Indigenous communities selected were the Navajo of the southwest United States, Siddi people in India, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia and the Maasai in East Africa. Although these are all diverse communities, spread across different continents, their base economic oppression and survival from colonial violence is a common denominator in hypothesizing the public health management outcomes. Job tells how things can be turned around for the better of all the people. He says that even though things have gone terribly wrong, people can still rise and mend fences for the future generation. Countering Violent Extremism in Kenya: Community, State, and Security Perspectives by John Mwangi Githigaro explores Kenya’s historical experiences with terrorism in the pre- and post 9/11 periods as a lens to situate how different stakeholders present the threats of extremism and the associated countermeasures they consider as valuable.
