Optical Polarization of Molecules

Optical Polarization of Molecules PDF Author: Marcis Auzinsh
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 0521443466
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 326

Book Description
This book explains the theory and methods by which gas molecules can be polarized by light, a subject of considerable importance for what it tells us about the electronic structure of molecules and properties of chemical reactions. Starting with a brief review of molecular angular momentum, the text goes on to consider resonant absorption, fluorescence, photodissociation and photoionization, as well as collisions and static fields. A variety of macroscopic effects are considered, among them angular distribution and the polarization of emitted light, ground state depopulation, laser-induced dichroism, the effect of collisions and external magnetic and electric field effects. Most examples in the book are for diatomic molecules, but symmetric-top polyatomic molecules are also included. The book concludes with a short appendix of essential formulae, tables for vector calculus, spherical functions, Wigner rotation matrices, Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, and methods for expansion over irreducible tensors.

Optical Anisotropy of Biological Polycrystalline Networks

Optical Anisotropy of Biological Polycrystalline Networks PDF Author: Lilia Trifonyuk
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9819910870
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 103

Book Description
This book highlights the analysis of new azimuth-independent methods of Stokes polarimetry and Mueller-matrix reconstruction of distributions of optical anisotropy parameters using spatial-frequency filtering of manifestations of phase (linear and circular birefringence) and amplitude (linear and circular dichroism) anisotropy for diagnosing changes in the orientational-phase structure of fibrillar networks of histological sections of biological tissues and polycrystalline films of biological fluids.

Epioptics 2000

Epioptics 2000 PDF Author: Antonio Cricenti
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789810247713
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 158

Book Description
This is the proceedings of a workshop which brought together researchers from universities and research institutes who work in the fields of (semiconductor) surface science, epitaxial growth, materials deposition and optical diagnostics relevant to (semiconductor) materials and structures of interest for present and anticipated (spin) electronic devices. The workshop assessed the capabilities of state-of-the-art optical techniques in elucidating the fundamental electronic and structural properties of semiconductor and metal surfaces, interfaces, thin layers, and layer structures, and examined the usefulness of these techniques for optimization of high quality multilayer samples through feedback control during materials growth and processing.

Photorefractive Organic Materials and Applications

Photorefractive Organic Materials and Applications PDF Author: Pierre-Alexandre Blanche
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319293346
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 325

Book Description
This book provides comprehensive, state-of-the art coverage of photorefractive organic compounds, a class of material with the ability to change their index of refraction upon illumination. The change is both dynamic and reversible. Dynamic because no external processing is required for the index modulation to be revealed, and reversible because the index change can be modified or suppressed by altering the illumination pattern. These properties make photorefractive materials very attractive candidates for many applications such as image restoration, correlation, beam conjugation, non-destructive testing, data storage, imaging through scattering media, holographic imaging and display. The field of photorefractive organic material is also closely related to organic photovoltaic and light emitting diode (OLED), which makes new discoveries in one field applicable to others.

Molecular Magnetochemistry

Molecular Magnetochemistry PDF Author: Sergey Vulfson PhD
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000722813
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 496

Book Description
Investigating the relationship between the magnetic properties and structure of molecules, molecular magnetochemistry, is an area of growing interest to scientists in a variety of fields, including physical, organic and inorganic chemistry, molecular physics, and biophysics. For the first time, systematic results on magnetic properties of molecules such as mean magnetic susceptibility, their anisotropies and principal magnetic axes are presented. Molecular Magnetochemistry is a comprehensive and up-to-date view on experimental methods not covered in previous volumes, including the Zeeman effect in vapor phase and magnetic birefringence of diamagnetic systems (Cotton-Mouton Effect). The relationship between magnetic and related electrical phenomena is also described, summing up experimental data on magnetic and electrical anisotropies and components of molecular quadrupole moments.

Ellipsometry of Functional Organic Surfaces and Films

Ellipsometry of Functional Organic Surfaces and Films PDF Author: Karsten Hinrichs
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319758950
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 549

Book Description
This new edition provides a state-of-the-art survey of ellipsometric methods used to study organic films and surfaces, from laboratory to synchrotron applications, with a special focus on in-situ use in processing environments and at solid-liquid interfaces. Thanks to the development of functional organic, meta- and hybrid materials for new optical, electronic, sensing and biotechnological devices, the ellipsometric analysis of optical and material properties has made tremendous strides over the past few years. The second edition has been updated to reflect the latest advances in ellipsometric methods. The new content focuses on the study of anisotropic materials, conjugated polymers, polarons, self-assembled monolayers, industrial membranes, adsorption of proteins, enzymes and RGD-peptides, as well as the correlation of ellipsometric spectra to structure and molecular interactions.
