Book Description
This report, in two volumes, describes the operational demonstration of an innovative tool kit designed to enhance the self-development of junior leaders in the Army. The tool kit contains online diagnostic and training tools that build self-awareness, metacognitive abilities, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. Volume I presents the body of the report, including an introduction to the demonstration, description of the tool kit, methods, findings and discussion, lessons learned, and conclusions and recommendations along with the references. This volume, Volume II, contains the appendices to the report. Presented are the planning documents that guided the development and execution of the research (Detailed Test Plan, Implementation Support Plan, and Student Guide) and examples of the manual data collection instruments. These appendices contribute to the understanding of this research effort as well as the findings, lessons learned, and recommendations presented in Volume I, Technical Report 1252. Further, the appendices provide valuable insights for researchers in future inquiries.

Operational Assessment of Tools for Accelerating Leader Development (ALD): Volume 1, Capstone Report

Book Description
This report, in two volumes, describes the operational demonstration and assessment of an innovative tool kit resulting from a research program aimed at enhancing the self-development of junior leaders in the Army. The tool kit contains online diagnostic and training tools that build self-awareness, metacognitive abilities, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. Soldiers in units and user juries provided feedback on the tools. The pressures of the operational environment seriously limited the time available to work with the tools. The user satisfaction results indicated that the tool kit provides a reasonable mix of capabilities, but completeness remains an open question. The tools appear to be especially suitable for use in pre-commissioning and military education programs. They offer moderately favorable acceptability, learning effectiveness, and value. However, the online learning methods may need modification to accommodate the importance Army leaders place on interpersonal interaction with mentors and peers. The findings, lessons learned, and recommendations can help decision makers, program architects, training developers, and research investigators advance the state of the art for leadership development programs. Volume II, ARI Research Note 2009-09, presents the report's appendices.

Accelerating Performance
Author: Colin Price
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1119147492
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
Transform your organization into a dynamic catalyst for success Accelerating Performance is not just another “warm and fuzzy” change management book—it's a practical, comprehensive, data-driven action plan for picking up the pace and achieving more. Co-written by one of the authors of Beyond Performance, this book draws on a combination of empirical research and decades of experience advising global companies to show you how to reduce time to value by building and changing momentum more quickly than your competitors. The META framework (short for Mobilize, Execute, and Transform with Agility) offers advice for leading change at four levels: strategy, the organization, teams, and individuals. In addition to step-by-step guidance toward assessment, planning, and implementation, the book offers: A diagnostic tool for leaders, teams, and organizations to assess their starting place, and highlight the specific areas needed to improve the ability to accelerate performance. A detailed look at the factors proven to create drag—and drive—at each of the four levels: strategy, organizations, teams, and individuals. An exploration of the 39 differentiating actions that organizations can combine as dictated by their strategy and context into a winning recipe. A closer look at the practices of 23 “superaccelerators,” a global (and perhaps unexpected) mix of companies that have demonstrated a consistent ability to accelerate performance. A single taste of success is all it takes to spark change, but the hard work of following through requires constant vigilance—and a plan. Learn how to capture that drive, bottle it, and use it to sustain motivation, inspiration, and achievement. Deliver at the highest level, and then turn around and do even better next time. Accelerating Performance gives leaders a step-by-step framework for taking action and transforming their organizations, teams, and even themselves—starting today.
