The Interaction of Strong Electromagnetic Fields with Plasmas
Author: Ivan Romanovich Gekker
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN:
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 352
Book Description
The range of plasma conditions considered here is intentionally broad, systematic and relevant to such areas as plasma heating, plasma acceleration, laser-plasma interaction, and plasma confinement. This volume presents the principle concepts of plasma physics - with an account of the linear theory of electromagnetic wave interaction - and then covers nonlinear processes with extensive treatment of the pondermotive force. Related experimental work is thoroughly reviewed.

Electromagnetic Confinement and Penetration of an Overdense Plasma

Pages : 19
Book Description
For a simple model, it is possible to compute the self-consistent confinement and penetration of an energetic electron plasma by an RF field of large amplitude, when the quantity (v/c) ((omega sub p)/omega) is of order unity or greater, where v is a characteristic electron speed, omega sub p is the plasma frequency, and omega is the RF frequency. Previous theories concerning nonlinear behavior of electromagnetic waves in plasmas have required this quantity to be very small compared to unity. (Author).
