Divine Epiphany in Greek Literature and Culture

Divine Epiphany in Greek Literature and Culture PDF Author: Georgia Petridou
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0191035858
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 428

Book Description
In ancient Greece, epiphanies were embedded in cultural production, and employed by the socio-political elite in both perpetuating pre-existing power-structures and constructing new ones. This volume is the first comprehensive survey of the history of divine epiphany as presented in the literary and epigraphic narratives of the Greek-speaking world. It demonstrates that divine epiphanies not only reveal what the Greeks thought about their gods; they tell us just as much about the preoccupations, the preconceptions, and the assumptions of ancient Greek religion and culture. In doing so, it explores the deities who were prone to epiphany and the contexts in which they manifested themselves, as well as the functions (narratives and situational) they served, addressing the cultural specificity of divine morphology and mortal-immortal interaction. Divine Epiphany in Greek Literature and Culture re-establishes epiphany as a crucial mode in Greek religious thought and practice, underlines its centrality in Greek cultural production, and foregrounds its impact on both the political and the societal organization of the ancient Greeks.

Epiphanies of the Divine in the Septuagint and the New Testament

Epiphanies of the Divine in the Septuagint and the New Testament PDF Author: Roland Deines
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783161562709
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 450

Book Description
This volume, the latest contribution to the international Corpus Judaeo-Hellenisticum Novi Testamenti (CJH), investigates New Testament and Septuagint descriptions of theophanic interactions with the world. The CJH project aims to improve the understanding of the individual New Testament writings as part of the culture of Hellenistic Judaism. This final volume complements studies on Philo, Josephus, non-textual evidence, and non-canonical pseudepigraphal writings, and focuses on the development of linguistic and theological concepts within and between the LXX and the New Testament. Thematically, the volume considers the possible impact of religious experiences on biblical texts: according to the biblical authors Israel experienced God as speaking and acting on its behalf, occasionally in visible, audible, and tangible ways. Indeed, scripture presents itself as beginning with epiphanies of the divine. Contributors: Andy Angel, Richard H. Bell, Eberhard Bons, Roland Deines, Susan Docherty, Jan Dochhorn, Jorg Frey, Volker Gackle, Jens Herzer, Brian Howell, Stefan Krauter, Jutta Leonhardt-Balzer, Martin Meiser, Steve Moyise, Thomas O'Loughlin, Alison Salvesen, Joachim Schaper, Edmund Stewart, Mark Wreford

Dhi's Oracle of Divine Epiphanies

Pages : 234

Book Description
About the book-While scrolling through posts on your social media, do you also stop at a random quote and feel like the universe sent it across just for you?Well, 'Dhi's Oracle of Divine Guidance' is supposed to be just that-a self-help collection of Dhi's (the Author's alter ego and the narrator of her works) musings and epiphanies covering all spheres of life and its range of conflicting emotions that are meant to be flipped through intuitively until you arrive at the one, you're meant to ponder over concerning the situation in your life at the time. The way to use it-With a relaxed frame of mind and your eyes closed, hold this self-help oracle in your hand gently and take a few deep breaths, focusing only on them and emptying your mind of all thoughts. Then proceed to request the universe to speak to you and guide you with what you need to do through this means. Be free and expressive as you do this, not thinking so much about how you're framing your words or how you ought to speak to the 'High Power'. Allow this to be a cathartic experience if you must. There is nothing wrong in being desperate for guidance as long as it's sincere and not done with a mind already made up.Flip through the pages with your eyes still closed and stop when your intuition asks you to-don't second guess it. The epiphany you'll thus arrive at, will be what the universe will want you to mull over in terms of where you're at in your life and will require you to introspect honestly, without trying to justify or vilify yourself before the universe. The universe has no ulterior motive in making you believe what isn't true, so denial won't support the divine guidance.Let Dhi assist you on your personal journey.

You already have all you need to step into the fullness of your power. Each of us has traumas, triggers, and painful experiences that have shaped our existence in this world. We carry these burdens with us as we navigate the realities of our lives. Learning to embody the truth of imago Dei is our catalyst for healing. We are each made in the image of God, and the Spirit of God lives within us. Therefore, we are allowed to listen to our Spirit. We are invited to develop our own Divine intuition, and we are empowered to trust our inner voice. We don't need anyone else's permission to navigate our life and faith, except our own. With the powerful voice of a woman, pastor, mother, and advocate, Rev. Aurelia Dávila Pratt gives us the compassionate nudge and tools we need to access our inner authority. By stepping out of harmful belief systems informed by white supremacy and scarcity, we can step into healthy paradigms of abundance, liberation, and power. A Brown Girl's Epiphany is a love letter to all of us in need of guidance on our journey. Honest, vulnerable, and humble, Pratt imagines a world where the walking wounded become the fully healed and liberated, where our inner work becomes the starting point for creating heaven on earth.

Epiphanies

Epiphanies PDF Author: Ann Jauregui
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1416565426
Category : Body, Mind & Spirit
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
In a quiet moment of therapy, a breakthrough comes -- the miracle of the new. To experience an epiphany is to have sudden insight into the essential meaning of something, unleashed sometimes in exquisitely slow motion, sometimes in a flash. In an intimate, lyrical integration of the science of psychology and transcendence of spirituality, celebrated clinician Dr. Ann Jauregui introduces us to nine individuals who have undergone astonishing transformations by exploring a world quite different from the one described by our five senses. With moments of miraculous and joyful surprise, Epiphanies exposes a reality outside of everyday existence that has momentous implications for life's ultimate questions. "Shyly we venture out with these stories," Dr. Jauregui writes, "into a world where science itself is struggling to describe a realm out of time and space and language." We are the beneficiaries of these extraordinary shifts of perspective, invited into a sparkling conversation that allows us to see the potential residing in all of us.
