Questions and Rhetoric in the Greek New Testament

Questions and Rhetoric in the Greek New Testament PDF Author: Douglas Estes
Publisher: Zondervan Academic
ISBN: 031052508X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 400

Book Description
While there are almost 1000 questions in the Greek New Testament, many commentators, pastors, and students skip over the questions for more ‘theological’ verses or worse they convert questions into statements to mine them for what they are saying theologically. However, this is not the way questions in the Greek New Testament work, and it overlooks the rhetorical importance of questions and how they were used in the ancient world. Questions and Rhetoric in the Greek New Testament is a helpful and thorough examination of questions in the Greek New Testament, seen from the standpoint of grammatical, semantic, and linguistic analysis, with special emphasis on their rhetorical effects. It includes charts, tools, and lists that explain and categorize the almost 1000 questions in the Greek New Testament. Thus, the user is able to go to the section in the book dealing with the type of question they are studying and find the exegetical parameters needed to understand that question. Questions and Rhetoric in the Greek New Testament offers vibrant examples of all the major categories of questions to aid the reader in grasping how questions work in the Greek New Testament. Special emphasis is given to the way questions persuade and influence readers of the Greek New Testament.

The Red Horse

The Red Horse PDF Author: Connie Ordelheide-Anderson
Publisher: WestBow Press
ISBN: 1490824871
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 80

Book Description
Symbols are a part of our society. But where words change biblical symbols remain the same. In her study of symbols, author Connie Anderson used a literal meaning of a word, unless the word is a number or symbol. Fish for instance is associated with the words of Jesus, who invites us to be fishers of men, not real sharks, crabs, or clown fish. Symbols anciently explained events in world history. Indicating God is revealing his plan, Anderson details the differences between how the Holy Spirit guided the world as the Berlin wall fell in Germany, the Iron Curtain was raised in Russia, and one man took on an armored tank on Tiananmen Square in China ~ along with a vastly different outcome as Lucifer instigates bitterness and revenge on September 11, 2001. Anderson unveils the scene in Heaven, as the Heavenly courtroom is opened to view. She hopes to provide prophecy as a comfort as Michael stands up to defend those whose names are in his book. You are protected by your Bridegrooms friends on 200,000,000 white horses. The Red Horse shares her faith in finding symbols that God cares and the devil destroys as she examines the laws of God and reaffirms Jesus has sent us many comforters!

The Truth About Reality

The Truth About Reality PDF Author: Anti Christ
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1462837271
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 581

Book Description
This book is for you! Anti Christ introduces you to yourself, your government and to your god. People, from all walks of life and religion, wonder about the validity of religion. Are physical creatures eternal beings cast in a prison of flesh or did life accidentally spring forth from the absurd and incoherent twists and turns of evolution? The several kinds of reality this book introduces fill the voids of understanding about reality with real knowledge. The book is not about religion, spirituality, occult, or anything concretely physical. It encompasses all the deceitful control schemes laid on you like obedient dogs in their traces. You cannot afford to stay ignorant for your continued existence depends on knowing what and who you are physically and spiritually. The mysteries of life are caused by your belief systems. To believe means that you do not know. Belief is the portal to hell, the permanent state of living death; knowledge is the portal to reality and eternal life. Science and religion cannot give the insight this book brings. Whether you believe the material is for you, or not, you cannot afford to remain ignorant for the route back to true reality is made clear. Ignorance always portrays itself as brilliance. The world is full of brilliant pretenders. My brother, Anti Christ leads you from example to example to understand the hoax on which physical reality is based. The more real life seems the more you are betrayed and trapped. The greatest mystery in the mind is the mystery of yourself. Vaguely, you all believe to be strangers guilty of something not understood. Anti Christ gives you the better outlook on life than any ideology, ism or cult you now subscribe to. Through believing clever deceits mankind never saw physical awareness for what it is. What humanity endlessly searches for lies revealed in the pages of this book. It overrules all human and, so-called, godly knowledge. I could not have said it better. Make it yours. Jesus Christ

God, Human, Animal, Machine

God, Human, Animal, Machine PDF Author: Meghan O'Gieblyn
Publisher: Anchor
ISBN: 0525562710
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 305

Book Description
A strikingly original exploration of what it might mean to be authentically human in the age of artificial intelligence, from the author of the critically-acclaimed Interior States. • "At times personal, at times philosophical, with a bracing mixture of openness and skepticism, it speaks thoughtfully and articulately to the most crucial issues awaiting our future." —Phillip Lopate “[A] truly fantastic book.”—Ezra Klein For most of human history the world was a magical and enchanted place ruled by forces beyond our understanding. The rise of science and Descartes's division of mind from world made materialism our ruling paradigm, in the process asking whether our own consciousness—i.e., souls—might be illusions. Now the inexorable rise of technology, with artificial intelligences that surpass our comprehension and control, and the spread of digital metaphors for self-understanding, the core questions of existence—identity, knowledge, the very nature and purpose of life itself—urgently require rethinking. Meghan O'Gieblyn tackles this challenge with philosophical rigor, intellectual reach, essayistic verve, refreshing originality, and an ironic sense of contradiction. She draws deeply and sometimes humorously from her own personal experience as a formerly religious believer still haunted by questions of faith, and she serves as the best possible guide to navigating the territory we are all entering.

Against the Wind

Against the Wind PDF Author: Carl L. Kell
Publisher: Univ. of Tennessee Press
ISBN: 1572336749
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 242

Book Description
The struggle for control of the Southern Baptist Convention, which was publicly launched in 1979 and concluded in the 1990s, marked an unprecedented turning point in the history of the denomination. Just as a new millennium was dawning, everything in the denomination was different: its priorities, its policies, and its personalities. The conservatives had come decisively to the fore, and those Baptists labeled as moderates found themselves largely exiled from the religious communities that had formed them and to which they had given their lives. Using rhetorical and historical analysis to illuminate the role of the Baptist moderates and the schisms that led to their banishment, Carl Kell argues that the twenty-first-century Baptist diaspora originated, in an unintended fashion, after World War II. Birthed in a postwar revival movement at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, young men and women with little or no training in preaching and religious organization became the progenitors of a distinctive community of moderate believers. Armed with a spirit of evangelism and missions, fueled by a "rhetoric of freedom," these men and women would be among the first exiles and martyrs of the fundamentalist takeover that occurred years later. As he probes the rhetoric that defined the moderate voice in Southern Baptist life, Kell also shows how the rise of a conservative counter-rhetoric associated with biblical inerrancy and related doctrines came into play to exclude and divide members of the convention. Complementing Kell's text are contributions by several other prominent observers of the Southern Baptist "holy wars," among them William Hull, Bill Leonard, and Duke McCall. The end result is a unique and penetrating examination of not only where the Baptist moderates came from, but where they are headed and how they will get there. Carl Kell is professor of communication at Western Kentucky University. He is the editor of Exiled: Voices of the Southern Baptist Convention Holy War and coauthor, with Raymond Camp, of In the Name of the Father: The Rhetoric of the New Southern Baptist Convention.

God's Grand Design

Book Description
God's Grand Design By: William R. Arnold, Edited by Ms. Aurora Payad-Arnold God’s Grand Design is to restore mankind to its original state of sacred perfection after Adam and Eve fell and created the original sin of disobedience, hiding, and lying to the Lord. When God cursed the serpent for tempting Adam and Eve to be like God, he promised to send his only begotten Son to save humanity. He did via the incarnate word in the womb of the immaculately conceived Virgin Mary. God wants to be man and receive a new body to defeat death through Jesus Christ. Man wants to become God to receive eternal life. Man’s journey to become God starts from being an ignorant baby gaining knowledge, to a cowardly teenager obtaining courage, to an adult converting greed to generosity, to a wise man changing selfishness to unselfishness, and at last, to a free man able to think for himself in eternal service to God in his kingdom. The journey requires him to know right from wrong, good from evil, and God’s will from man’s will and thus defeat evil, worldly temptations, and demonic possession. Through Christ, God and man are destined to become one through three advents, making the God/Man Christ into the new human spirit (blessings). Then, the Man/God Jesus becomes the new human flesh to make all things perfect in the sight of God. Jesus Christ came as a priest on a donkey to decode the Torah, bring knowledge, and remove blindness to defeat sin. By his death and resurrection, he granted free redemption to man’s flesh to give him a new body. The second coming of Jesus Christ as thief in the night will bring awakening to remove deafness by teaching God’s truths to defeat evil. As a just judge on a cloud on his third advent, the Lord will remove mankind’s dumbness to defeat death. And then man can become worthy of receiving God’s rewards of paradise in heaven or heaven on earth.
