Book Description
Risk-informed Methods and Applications in Nuclear and Energy Engineering: Modelling, Experimentation, and Validation presents a comprehensive view of the latest technical approaches and experimental capabilities in nuclear energy engineering. Based on Idaho National Laboratory's popular summer school series, this book compiles a collection of entries on the cutting-edge research and knowledge presented by proponents and developers of current and future nuclear systems, focusing on the connection between modelling and experimental approaches. Included in this book are key topics such as probabilistic concepts for risk analysis, the survey of legacy reliability and risk analysis tools, and newly developed tools supporting dynamic probabilistic risk-assessment. This book is an insightful and inspiring compilation of work from top nuclear experts from INL. Industry professionals, researchers and academics working in nuclear engineering, safety, operations and training will gain a board picture of the current state-of-practice and be able to apply that to their own risk-assessment studies. - Based on Idaho National Laboratory's summer school series, this book is a collection of entries from proponents and developers of current and future nuclear systems - Provides an up-to-date view of current technical approaches and experimental capabilities in nuclear energy engineering, covering modeling and validation, and focusing on risk-informed methods and applications - Equips the reader with an understanding of various case studies and experimental validations to enable them to carry out a risk-assessment study

Pages : 0

Book Description
Transforming the energy system is at the core of the dedicated sustainable development goal on energy within the new United Nations development agenda. This publication explores the possible contribution of nuclear energy to addressing the issues of sustainable development through a large selection of indicators. It reviews the characteristics of nuclear power in comparison with alternative sources of electricity supply, according to economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainability. The findings summarized in this publication will help the reader to consider, or reconsider, the contribution that can be made by the development and operation of nuclear power plants in contributing to more sustainable energy systems.

Atomic and Nuclear Methods in Fossil Energy Research

Atomic and Nuclear Methods in Fossil Energy Research PDF Author: Filby
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468441337
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 503

Book Description
The increased demand on fossil fuels for energy production has resulted in expanded research and development efforts on direct use of fossil fuels and conversion of fossil fuels into synthetic fuels. These efforts have focused on the efficiency of the energy production and/or conversion processes, and of the emission control technology, as well as delineation of the health and environmental impacts of those processes and their by-products. A key ingredient of these studies is the analytical capability necessary to identify and quan tify those chemicals of interest in the process and by-produce streams from coal combustion, oil shale retorting, petroleum refin ing, coal l1quifaction and gasification. These capabilities are needed to analyze a formidable range of materials including liquids, solids, gases and aerosols containing large numbers of criteria and pollutants including potentially hazardous polynuclear aromatic hy drocarbons, organo-sulfur and organo-nitrogen species, trace elements and heavy metals, among others. Taking notice of these developments we sought to provide a forum to discuss the latest information on new and novel applica tions of a subset of those necessary analytical capabilities, namely atomic and nuclear techniques. Consequently, we organized the con ference on Atomic and Nuclear Methods in Fossil Fuel Energy Research, which was held in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico from December 1 to December 4, 1980."
