La demande des patients de restaurations plus esthétiques est elle aussi en augmentation. L'évolution des matériaux, de leurs compositions et propriétés mécaniques, ont permis d'étendre leurs indications. En parallèle, l'évolution des systèmes adhésifs a favorisé le développement de protocoles d'assemblage ayant des résultats prédictibles et reproductibles. Cela abouti progressivement à la substitution des systèmes céramo-métalliques par des systèmes tout céramique. Une grande variété de céramiques, dont la nature physique ainsi que les propriétés mécaniques différentes permettent de répondre à la majorité des situations cliniques, est aujourd'hui disponible. Le choix du matériau par le praticien conditionnera donc la réussite ainsi que la longévité du traitement. Ce travail propose tout d'abord d'étudier les forces fonctionnelles entrant en jeu lors de la mastication. Puis, nous décrirons les différentes céramiques, en étudiant leurs propriétés mécaniques. Nous verrons dans un dernier temps les avantages du collage des restaurations tout-céramique ainsi que les protocoles permettant une bonne pérennité de ces restaurations.
