Book Description
Excerpt from My Private Diary During the Siege of Paris, 1875, Vol. 1 of 2 We saw to-day that there were great preparations for provisions - the Bois de Boulogne, as well as all the markets, full of cattle. Mr. Wallace, an Irish contractor, being asked what he thought of the animals as food for tr00ps, said, Well, all I know is that they would not steal them in England. They average eightpence per pound Ireland and England can sell in Paris at that price. The same gentleman told me that he once bought a hunter for seven-and sixpence, and. Won twenty-one Steeplechases with him. He also once cleared a brook so wide that a pious man said his prayers before he took off, and had time to repeat the Lord's Prayer in the air. He is here to sell the garrison any quantity of cattle. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
