Party Like a Rockstar

Party Like a Rockstar PDF Author: J.T. Harding
Publisher: Twelve
ISBN: 1538735415
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 285

Book Description
This fun and fast-paced rock-and-roll memoir from hit singer-songwriter J.T. Harding shows what it takes to go from South Detroit to the top of the Nashville charts. In PARTY LIKE A ROCKSTAR, J.T. Harding charts his life from a kid growing up in Michigan to a chart-topping songwriter living in Nashville and working with country music stars like Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney. As a kid playing rock n' roll in his parents' garage, Harding's was a world in which every taste of new music—from KISS to Prince and everyone in between—was a revelation. Inspired by his favorite artists, Harding abandons the classic "American Dream" and runs away to Los Angeles, where he forms a band and becomes part of the music scene there, all the while selling records to his favorite artists and producers at Tower Records. A story of youth, rebellion, and determination, PARTY LIKE A ROCKSTAR is a memoir for music lovers and an invaluable how-to guide for anyone who wants to learn how to write a hit song. Fun and heartfelt, Harding's memoir is the story of one man's unshakable love for rock and roll, how it guided him through some of the greatest tragedies—and greatest triumphs—of his wild and unvarnished life.

Centered By A Miracle: A True Story of Friendship, Football and Life

Centered By A Miracle: A True Story of Friendship, Football and Life PDF Author: Steve Rom
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1613215096
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 245

Book Description
Miracles can happen to anyone. Steve Rom, a sportswriter at the Ann Arbor News, never thought his friendship with a recently retired Super Bowl champion would last. Rod Payne, a member of the 2000 world champion Baltimore Ravens, and a former All-America center at the University of Michigan, never thought the camaraderie he shared with his teammates in the NFL could be found with a rookie reporter. But when the two met by chance on Michigan’s campus early in the summer of 2001, they discovered they had a lot in common. Each was an only child raised by a working mother. Both felt a loss growing up without a father around. Despite pressure from their peers (including Rod’s former teammates and Steve’s fellow writers) to end their friendship—athletes aren’t supposed to get along with reporters, after all—their bond developed quickly. When Steve took a short vacation to his native Los Angeles, three days of severe flu-like symptoms landed him in the hospital, where he received the most devastating news of his life. He was told he had leukemia. Steve and Rod’s friendship was about to change forever. Skyhorse Publishing, along with our Arcade, Good Books, Sports Publishing, and Yucca imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Dear Jay, Love Dad

Dear Jay, Love Dad PDF Author: Jay Wilkinson
Publisher: University of Oklahoma Press
ISBN: 080618406X
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 195

Book Description
College football fans need no introduction to Bud Wilkinson, but few of them know the great University of Oklahoma football coach as a devoted father. In Dear Jay, Love Bud, Jay Wilkinson, Bud’s younger son, shares forty-seven letters his father wrote to him while he was in college and graduate school. Spanning the early to mid-1960s, these letters reveal Bud’s deep love for his son, as well as the philosophy and values that led to his remarkable success in sports and in life. Beginning with the first letter Bud wrote when Jay left home, this collection shows a father guiding his son toward his own path while stressing the importance of service to others. The embodiment of the scholar-athlete, Bud mixes encouragement with intellectual discussions. When Jay reads American philosopher William James for a class at Duke University, his father, a serious student of literature, reads the book, too, and uses its insights to help Jay deal with the challenges of his freshman year. Bud writes about his own challenges, as well, including his debate over whether to accept the Kennedy administration’s invitation to head the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. Jay’s comments about each of these letters provide context and further insight. By the time Jay becomes a graduate student at the Episcopal Theological School, the correspondence turns toward religion and politics, as Bud reflects on the philosophical issues of the day and on his unsuccessful run for the U.S. Senate in 1964. His belief that the greatest leaders are not always the most popular made him an unlikely politician even then, but a wonderful role model and interlocutor for his son. Bud’s thoughts on ethics in business and politics are as inspiring today as when he wrote them a half-century ago.
